We live in the Marina and DH works in Media City so he is thinking of getting a scooter so i can have the car, will be interesting in the summer but we only have 1 parking space. Does anyone know if he needs a special bike license to ride this? In the UK i think you can ride anything up to 50cc on a standard driving license but not sure about here.
Thanks

I understood that you need a bike licence for any type of motorbike, regardless of the cc. I took my motorbike licence and got a 250cc for that kind of commute, we now live inAR and use it for popping out to the shops. It is very useful so if it saves you some hassle, may be worth looking at that route. You are right as i went through this with my ex and you have to have it on your Dubai licence. If you look on the back it will say light vehicle which means a car not like in the UK you need the motorbike one to be on there

We looked into this last year for my daughter. There is an anomaly in the law regarding this - you do not need a licence for a 50cc scooter but you cannot register a 50cc vehicle and you cannot drive an unregistered vehicle on the roads. So basically they are sold here but illegal to use. However, my daugher rode one around Motor City and Arabian Ranches for 18 months without a problem as many people advised that the police turn a blind eye to them on small comunity roads. This seems true as many times she was stopped alongside a police car at traffic lights without a problem. I wouldn't want to ride one on a main road though even if it was legal, not with the standard of driving here
