Just had the family here over xmas and were told by our insurer that they were covered to drive our car. they had International licences NOT UAE licences. We also checked with RTA Nikki is right - the insurance company basically say as long as they have your approval they can drive - the RTA are very flakey about the whole thing - it's the Police who deal with all offences and if an accident occurs that's when you could find yourself in big trouble...... Why can't they just have a rule so that everyone knows exactly what is right and what is wrong.....

I thought the issue was that the Police/RTA say different to the Insurance companies and at the end of the day it is the Police who issue fines etc.

Temporary Driving Licences phased out about 3 years ago. I now have insurance with RSA. Had brother and family over at Christmas and RSA said he could drive my car fully insured. They did ask me how old he was though.

as has been mentioned many times before anyone can drive your car if they have a uae licence, visitors cannot drive your car. they can hire a car if they have a visit visa, sometimes an insurance company will say its ok, but i wouldnt trust them you know the probs there may cause, unless of course they put it in writing. in the past a visitor could drive on a temp licence but they havent issued them for a good long time now.

I have AXA and they told me that anyone with UAE driving license driving my car will be covered under the policy. Sorry, I don't know anything about this UAE temp license. May be call up your insurance carrier and ask them specifically, and preferably in writing if permissible.
