Hi ladies.

What do you do with all those 100's and 100's of pics you've taken on the digi, downloaded to your comp and then.......what??

Do you save them to CD's and then keep them?
Do you put them on an external hard-drive?
Do you print them??

I'm lost and don't know what to do. I was thinking about putting them all on CD's and taking all the millions of pics somewhere and just taking the hit and printing them off.

Where could I do this if I'm talking about lots and lots and lots of pics.

Thanks..

ideas welcome.

Do some serious and ruthless culling of your photos getting rid of stuff like duplicates, poor quality shots, out of focus pix, boring landscapes, people you don't know well, etc etc. Do a couple of folders a night to work through them first before you store them on an external drive. There are some great little memory sticks quite cheap now.

or u cud upload them all on to shutterfly and they have these offers for 10cents a print, so u get like 600prints, 4x6 for 10cents each. U could get one of those :) Shaf - just signed up to Shutterfly - Because I want to print them in a book (like a magazine) - do they deliver to Dubai? yup! The first mail usually takes six weeks, but after that i usualy get them in 2 weeks.

I saw a great way to display photos on a decorating program last week. A couple bought an overhead projector and put it up on a ceiling and hung a very pretty empty frame on the wall opposite. Photos were then displayed on random setting in that frame. It made a real feature. I am mind to do the same. oh yea, u can get that photoframe album thing to display ur pictures! I shud get one of those! Thanks MArina!

If u already have prints, just store them all on a harddisk and keep it securely somewhere :)

I was wondering something similar - I've 10 year worth of travel, family & friends faithfully recorded but hardly anyone looks at it. So I've made a bit of an effort in the past year to use our collection, here are a few ideas: Why not set your picture library as both background and screen saver so you see random selections whilst at your desk? Build sets by a theme for your own digiframe - eg trees/green leaves or kid playing etc and change it over every so often Buy aged parents a digiframe and deliver updates on each visit to them Give illustrated talks eg I gave one last year to a YC in the UK about sailing in the Med from our 2001/2 pictures Post some on FB for friends and family to view/comment on (I also use some to illustrate my blog) Make a photo collage with some of the best and get it printed up on canvas to hang on the wall On the technical side I always keep a back up on an external drive but also quite like www.dropbox.com as can share high res files too. I organise my photos in a directory per year with sub-directories per topic (eg summer holiday, Dubai etc) to help me find stuff. More recently I've started renaming each photo with a keyword or two representing the content but have a huge backlog still to do.

don't you just find them all a tad too slow. Like the Mac app, or say photobucket etc etc I mean there is no shortage of storage options online. Its just I mean one big mammoth task to up load them. However, yep, good idea, and may just need to bite the bullet and open an account and start uploading and storing and being as organised as possible.

REALLY good ideas, loved all my photobooks (I got them made from kodak few years back) but the real problem is the actual 'volume' of pics. There are seriously 1000's and i'm sure we're all in the same boat, esp with just snapping away on the digi. If I were to do photobooks, we're talking 20 maybe 30 books. #Bangs head on wall. What a mess! Teach me for not keeping on top of organising.

I have a mac and the Iphoto application has the the option of making a photobook. I think you can download the same app for windows too. Yo can make a photobook and that woud aso help to get rid of the pics you do not need!

Our documents are on thumb drives, one for each family member, and then one master. Photos are on a big drive. As I said in another post, my 19 year old now has her drive with all of her info, medical, birth cert etc... and we have the master.

i select some to sync onto apple tv, i back up all onto an external hard drive, and print a few to put in frames around the house. i download some onto digital frames for family gifts etc. so yes to all. I always assume that my computer storage will be lost / damage at some point, so take steps to make sure that if the files can't be recovered, there is a duplicate somewhere else.
