13 month old refusing to go to sleep at night! HELP!

I am slowly coming to the end of my tether and don't know what to do. My 13 month old DD has decided she won't go to sleep in the evening! She sleeps normally from around 8 or 9pm to 6am with an almost guaranteed wake up for milk at 3am. She then comes into bed with me a 6am, plays for awhile and goes back to sleep until 8 or 9am.

Recently, she is taking up to an hour and a half to go to sleep at night. I stay with her, rock her, rub her back in the cot, just sit there and she is almost asleep, but keeps checking to see if I am there. I have no idea what to do. I am sitting there til 10 or 11pm, night after night. I have tried the cry it out thing and last night that lasted an hour, but eventually she did sleep, so the whole process took 2 hours!

She drinks most of a bottle before bed, and another throughout the night, finishing it at 6am. She rarely drinks milk in the day time now. She also sleeps for an hour or 2 in the afternoon from around 1pm. She is seriously active, constantly on the move, so tires herself out.

The other thing that is new, is waking at 3am and refusing to go back to sleep til maybe 6am. It is exhausting!

Please, any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks! It is reassuring to know that I am not alone! I will try to change the nap time, but again it is difficult to get her to sleep when she doesn't want to. Here's hoping! :)

some children tend to hate to sleep not sure why.. when my daugther was at this age and younger she gave me hard time to sleep during day and nigth as well... now she is 4 and half and she is giving me hard time to go to bed even in school days. on the other hand my son is loves to sleep and he kept on sleeping two napps a day and slept well at nigth until almost 2 yrs.. now he is 3 does not take naps in day but sleeps almost 12hrs nigths to morning. make her nap in mid of the day like 12- 2 pm and then give her a nice hot bath before going to bed at nigth. i used this with my daugther and she was a bit better with her sleep routine. good luck with your baby...

I stopped my 13months old DD having naps after 2pm because it was difficulty to get her to sleep at night time, so by 8 or 9 she would go to sleep and wakes up at 5 in the morning and then naps again at 7in the morning, I found this to be less tiring than her previous routine. Try to change her routine and stop the afternoon nap if you can and keep her busy so that she does not sleep

You poor thing! I recently stopped letting my 12 month old son take naps in the afternoon as he was taking too long to settle at night and then waking up too early! Now he generally sleeps from 7pm until 6am with a night feed about 4 out of 7 nights, he generally naps from 10am until 12pm and then I keep him going until 7. This can get very hard work as he gets tired and ratty from about 4pm but I find it's worth it to get some adult time in the evening and a good sleep at night. This may of course mean a big change of routine for you both but might do the trick!?! He also likes me to wait by the cot while he falls asleep although lately I have been standing a little further away, if he fusses then I just pat him for a few moments and then step back again. My 5 year old was very much the same but eventually out grew it, so there is hope yet! Good luck. Post your progress!
