9 month old night-wakings!

DS is 9 months old and has been such a good sleeper - waking once a night. for the past week he's been waking up twice, even three times a night. his first time as early as 8pm!

he has 2 relatively good naps during the day, has a lot of activity time and goes down at 6.30pm latest. when he wakes up i try to give him a sip of water but he turns is head away. i manage to get him back to sleep upon his first wake up, but thereafter he wants to be fed. have i created a sleep-association with feeding him to sleep? am i asking a rhetorical question? :D he stands in his cot moaning (not crying) and we leave him with the hope that he will fall asleep by himself - he used to do it - but not any more. he will stand there till i go in and then he wants a feed.

i know there's a growth spurt at 9 months, could this be the reason? he is also cruising like a trooper, walking is imminent - could that keep him up too? any suggestions?

also, with a 6.30pm bed-time, why does the little rascal wake up at 5am (or even before!) to start his day? i know getting him to bed later is not going to help at all - but how can i get him to sleep a little later? his room is DARK so no light issues there.

any suggestions?

Hi ilovewine, I think you should read the book 'the no-cry sleep solution' by Elizabeth Pantley. It is the most sensible I read so far, especially if you are still breastfeeding and BLW. I have a pdf copy which other lady from this forum kindly emailed me. I can forward it to you if you give me your email address/send me an email. I am very interested in your case, as [b'>[i'>I have a 6 months 2 weeks baby who is still breastfeeding and I have just started BLW[/i'>[/i'> [/b'>- There are not many ladies in Dubai doing this way so I would love to share experiences if you don't mind. Please send me an email to rchlmiller (at) gmail (dot) com ilovewine, I'm in the exact same situation as Nimonemo, would you mind sharing your BLW experience with me as well, please? Nimonemo, Can i also have a copy of the pdf, please? Many thanks edited by nix.dubai on 11/10/2012

hi perkynana! i've been emailing you but i think you were away ...? anyway, thanks for your response. since my post DS has been sleeping well again (fingers crossed). wow! 3 teeth! i thought for a while that DS is cutting his top two but then nothing. so we're waiting anxiously for them. i still breastfeed and we are doing BLW. paed says everything's still ok, so it's not his food intake. he eats well though, it has 'clicked' for him now so for breakfast he finishes an entire omlette! how many mls per bottle does your little one have? DS's bottles are 210mls each and i'm worried about that, but he eats so well that sometimes the bottles are returned from nursery with 20mls to 40mls left in them. thanks!

Hi ilovewine, sounds like your DS and my DD are tracking at about the same rate. DD is cruising like crazy and now standing on her own (until she remembers that she is not holding on to something). For the last month we have been having one or two nights a week where she will wake up - I have just put it down to the fact that when she does wake and normally resettles she remembers she has all these new skills and gives them a try and really wakes herself up as when we go in to check her she is ready to play. . Girlfriends say this passes once the new skills become normal and they go back to sleeping all the way through again. So have got my fingers crossed. We have been concious about what she is eating - have started porridge in the mornings to sustain her a bit better through the day esp as she is now only three bottles a day. Also probably doesn't help she is cutting three teeth at once at the moment so like you not 100% sure what is causing it - just hoping it passes soon. Good luck

if it continues, might be time to change the nap times/drop a nap?
