I will either deliver at Al Garhound private hospital or Medcare by Safa - does anyone have experiences at either of these? I'll be touring them this weekend.

Hi Mrs Abdalla - I honestly cannot speak highly enough about the treatment and care me and my baby received at Al Garhoud with Dr Nadia. I delivered there early Jan - went in for routine check up 2 weeks before my due date and Dr. Nadia did a scan and found my waters had leaked away so they needed to get baby out asap. They got me in for an emergency c-section wand within 2 hours of having the scan I had had my baby. I was massively freaked out prior to going into surgery and totally unprepared but all the staff and especially Dr. Nadia were just fantastic!! She talked me through everything and delivered my baby herself - she then stitched me up and made a point to come and check on me constantly. Also her staff are all fantastic - lovely ladies and nothing is too much trouble. We also did not pay any cash up front. If I fall pregnant again, I would not consider going anywhere else. I called the hospital this morning to make an appointment with Dr. Nadia but unfortunately she's fully booked for another month and even has a waiting list for cancellations! I'm due in 6 weeks so can't afford to wait around so booked with Dr. Hanan instead. Hope she'll be good also. Dr. Nadia indeed must be amazing to say she has such a long list of patients. Can i also ask, did they charge you for anything you used at the hospital such as diapers, creams, etc. as many people are telling me most hospitals add these items on to your bill, in that case i'd rather bring my own as i already have everything and got the top of the range of each item. Thanks again so much! :)

I was also covered for just these 2 hospitals. I went to look at both, and decided on Al Garhoud. I am due to deliver there next week. I have been seeing Dr. Nadia who is fantastic (she has a LOT of experience and is 1 of the 3 fetal specialists in UAE). I cannot recommend the hospital and Dr. Nadia highly enough. All the staff are wonderful as well. I was given the full tour, introduced to the head midwives (who were fantastic when we had a false alarm the other night and ended up there at 1am). The rooms are all clean and nice, and they really make you feel like you are the only patient! Every time I have had an appointment, they have been so helpful and caring. After a few friends have delivered at Medcare, I would not go there.. Hope this helps Hi Masafi mama! I had the tour of al garhoud private hos. yesterday and loved it! The staff were amazing. I've decided to deliver there after 7/8 weeks inshallah. They asked me if i wanted any doctor in particular but im not sure how it works? Like if i request Dr. Nadia, do i have to go and have consultations with her and will she also be the one to deliver the baby? Plus i told them yesterday i would pay in advance or at least a deposit but they said "no need :) you can pay when you arrive to deliver your baby". I keep thinking it's a mistake after seeing all the other hospitals who demand cash up front. Please let me know. I was using NMC for all my GYN appointments until this week

Congratulations srdoucet and EDF8! :) You've welcomed the little miracles into your lives, amazing. Hope you're all doing well. Thank you for sharing with us. I just heard that Al Garhoud hospital was one of the first this year to receive international accreditation (seeing it's a new hospital) while some that have been around for a while have not obtained it yet. I'll still tour Medcare but we've pretty much decided on Al Garhoud.

I'm with EDF8 on al garhoud except I had a c section on Saturday. All those in the or were great and explained step by step what they were doing or how things should feel. They would also try getting me to chat with them to make me more relaxed and calmed down. A few of the drs and nursing staff were also protective in a sense when talking to some of the other drs about my circumstances as I'm one that can't breast feed and was getting tired of defending myself.

I delivered at Al Garhoud on Saturday, I was omitted for induction so labor was very long, but throughout the entire time i was there, all the nurses, midwives, and staff were fantastic! They were all very attentive, very professional and we felt we were in good hands! Majority were very I formative and answered all questions I had! The pre birth room could have used another chair for me to use during contractions, but the birth room and post birth room were great. Couch/bed for hubby was a bit hard, but it did the trick & allowed him to stay with me the whole time! Checking out process was very smooth, they had little packs of meds ready for me and for baby and the bill, etc was all ready and prepared, so not a lot of waiting around! If anyone has any questions or wants further feedback on the hospital let me know! :)

Just wanted to update you ladies, I delivered my baby 2 weeks ago at Al Garhoud hospital with Dr. Nadia and had a great experience. I went in for a routine check up 2 weeks prior to due date and within 2 hours of being there I was prepped and ready to go for an emergency c-section as therewere complications and they had to get bubs out pronto. After thinking I would have a natural delivery, this came as quite a shock but Dr. nadia sat with me and explained everything in detail to me regarding the complications and the surgery. All of the nurses and staff involved in the surgery were fantastic. I stayed in the hospital for 3 nights, and the aftercare was also great. Regular visits from the midwives to assist with breastfeeding, the paediatrician also came in daily to check on us and explain any tests etc. And to monitor my baby closely as he was tiny when he was born. Anyway, initially didn't know whether to use this hospital as there was no feedback on it, so hope this helps <em>edited by Masafi Mama on 22/01/2013</em>

5 of my frnds have delivered in recent years at Medcare with Dr.Luthra, so she is my ob gyn also. I was diagnosed last weekend with gestational diabetes and was hospitalised(Medcare), the care I recieved from the team and Dr.Luthra was really reassuring and am glad I made her and the hospital my choice.

I delivered my 3rd baby at Medcare a 18 months ago and had a good experience. My Dr was Dr Luthra and although many people don't like her I thought she was great. I decided not to have an epidural and baby no 3 was 10.5pounds and 69cm long when he came out. Near the end I was about to faint and said I couldn't do it any more she really focused me told me I was doing a great job and it was nearly over.

I had a very pleasant delivery at Medcare and would not hesitate to go back. My obs was from the Cooper Clinic though. A friend had the same experience a few weeks later. It was my second pregnancy and it was different to my midwife led delivery in the UK but I would happily opt for either one if I had another baby. Good Luck!

I've never been to Al Garhoud so can't comment on there. I've been to Medcare for a pregnancy related emergency and wouldn't go back if you paid me.
