Hi ladies

While baking, younger ds started to want me to pick him up, so i rinsed my hands and cuddled him - he immediately reacted to something(EGG?FLOUR) and his face literally blew up!!!! Was so frightened, washed him straight away and squirted him with breast milk and he began to 'deflate'. Since then I have been to see my pead and he has given us fenestil antihistamine drops.

DH was eating a cake and then picked up ds and gave him a kiss - and again we had the same but slightly reduced reaction to what must have been a crumb on dh's face.

- just needed some more info re allergies when introducing food - a lovely friend gave me the schedule for introducing foods to avoid allergies and so far have pretty good idea my ds is allergic to wheat and so possibly gluten(?) he is 8 months old now. He comes up with an awful rash on his cheeks and under the chin.

What do you substitute for this wheat allergy??? i feel like i am constantly coming across so many things he can't have. Seems to have no reaction to dairy though.

I am just so not enjoying the eating process ( it was a pleasure with ds 1) and so worried about introducing something new that may trigger another reaction in my poor wee man.

am feeling a bit out of my safe area :(

If you think it maybe eggs you will need to check the labelling in all the products that you give your DS. Eggs is in contained in alot of products. Good Luck with the blood tests - when I first got DS tested at 10 mths he first had the skin prick tests then 6 mths later had the blood tests. I then had him checked every year.

DS had loads of food allergies when he was a baby - nuts & eggs being the most dangerous to him but he was also allergic to wheat, soya, cats & dogs! His cheeks would go red & have hives on them (blisters) he would scrath them & they would bleed - it was awful & he would breath funny. He also has athsma which is connected to food allergies. I was in the UK at the time & got him tested privately - I then knew precisly what he could or couldn't eat. DS has to carry an Epipen Jr with him at all times for his nut allergy. He eventually grew out of all the other allergies but the nut one will stay with him for life. Since being in Dubai he is a patient with Dr Loubser @ Infinity Clinic - he's an allergy specialist & excellent peadatrician. I think your DS maybe allergic to eggs. Raw eggs are the worst as it's stronger than cooked eggs which would have been in the cake your DH was eating.

Same as others posters recommend plus STAY AWAY FROM EGSS ( don.t use them on the house) as my personal opinion the reaction been triggered by eggs as gluten has to be ingested/ consumed to have a reaction sorry but no time on elaborating the gluten issues... Wheat very rare has this type of reaction without ingestion... EGSS one of the most anaphylactic shock reaction.....( some pers. just by smelling from a distance)....same no time to elaborate ...either google it or someone with more time elaborate please....

Defiantly , go and see an allergist, you shouldn't eliminate foods without advise, but you should get it checked out and advise. Dr loubser is meant to be amazing.

thanks ladies - Browneyedgirl - thanks about the info re the alternate flours - i am such a dope for not thinking of them!! Granola - have heard about the allergy tests and dr loubser and also a doc at the american hosp - but apparently it is better to wait til they are one years old for some reason as some babies 'grow' out of their allergies by thsi age ..... i think if myunderstanding is correct.

That's terrible. If you are in Dubai, Dr. Loubser (infinity clinic) is an pediatric allergy expert. I'm sure he could walk you through the issues and ways to alter your eating/feeding habits. Good luck to you, very frightening.

Sorry to hear about this Homesickk, how frightening. I suppose you ought to have a proper allergy test done to determine the cause. If you do a search I'm sure you'll find good advise on how to go about this. If it is wheat that's the problem then it'll be difficult initially to make the lifestyle changes but it's probably a healthier diet as a result. Ricecakes are a reasonable alternative to bread. Fresh fruit and veg & pulses are still on the menu, as are potatoes. Corn is a good wheat substitute (cereal and flour) and gram flour is wheat free too. Good news that he doesn't have a reaction to diary at least.
