I have a mothercare cot and DD keeps banging her head on the sides and ends of the cot. She is now eight and half months is crawling and sitting up on her own. I have lowered the base of the cot as she is now trying to pull her self. I had the breathable bumpers and wanted to put them back up after moving the base but it says on the tag to remover bumper once baby can sit up unaided. Am just wondering if you continued using bumpers and till when? What can I do keep her banging her head especially on the two solid ends of the cot?

My son did the same thing when he went into the cot at 7 months old. We bought cot bumbers to go all the way around. Works a treat. He's now 15mths old and we still have them on.

D-J - till when did your kids sleep in the travel cot? I don't want this to be a permanent option and I'd like to put her back in her proper cot. My LOs co-slept until they were about 2. Travel cot was only when they napped during the day because obviously i could not leave them on our bed unattended.

giant waste of money I'd say, give it a couple of weeks and she won't fall over anymore, in the meantime just get used to bumped heads, with cruising and walking just around the corner your baby is going to end up with a lot of bruises.

http://www.gomamagodesigns.com/wonder-bumpers/ I came across these bumbers which look. Interesting. Now if only I could find something similar that fits the solid end like a sock ?

No Big Blue, she's just banging when she's trying to sit or get up and not intentionally. I can only imagine how hard it is to get her to stop banging if she's doing it intentionally. I will try the airwrap and maybe change to a firmer mattress. Haha, well at least your problem will prob go away once she gets stronger and can control her movements better:-) I got my air wrap from Amazon UK back in Dec but at the time none of the vendors would deliver to Dubai so I had a friend who was coming over bring it for me. There is another brand that will come up if you search on amazon uk for air wrap, I don't recall the name but both seemed good to me so you may have more options. The type for cots with solid ends is different so pay attention when ordering. Hope it works for you!

I got the deluxe ones from Oz sorry, but I know you can get air wrap in Dubai somewhere, remember someone on here mentioning them before....or you could try amazon. I have a cot that has slats all the way around and there was a air wrap that went all the way around....I have a feeling the ones for the cots with two solid ends only go on the sides. :( you could try putting some long towels tight under half the mattress and over the ends, securing them somehow on the outside if that makes sense?

Hi Taurus baby, is she hitting her head on the bed by accident while trying to stand/crawl etc or intentionally? I'm only asking because mine goes and hits her head intentionally, starts gently and keeps increasing the force as if she's trying to figure out when it will hurt. She's not sleeping in a cot, she's on a mattress on the floor so she hits her head on the wall. If she's doing it intentionally, putting in bumpers etc won't help as she will do the same every chance she gets against walls and other surfaces and even above the bumper clearance in the cot. I've tried hard to prevent DD from doing it but she'll do it now and then on walls, doors, sofas etc so as long as i'm nearby and can make sure she doesn't overdo it I let her have a go. I have the air wrap bumper in her (now retired) cot but it doesn't make a difference to be honest, however if you want to try, these are the only ones that are safe to use once the baby can stand up as they are collapsible so they cannot use them as a step to climb out of the cot. Not sure about the towels idea, wouldn't this allow the baby to step on the towel and risk climbing over the bars? I haven't tried it myself but just wondering...

I've actually put her in a travel cot which we were using last month when we were not at home. Atleast she doesn't bang her head while in it. I wonder could it be because the mattress in her cot is quite squishy and she keeps loosing her balance and then bangs her head. The travel cot has a firmer mattress and she's able to sit better on it. Does mothercare do firm mattress for their cot? D-J - till when did your kids sleep in the travel cot? I don't want this to be a permanent option and I'd like to put her back in her proper cot. Sydneygal - where did you get the deluxe air wrap bumpers? I only have a regular breathable bumper and they are not too padded. Also does it go around the two ends as well? Mine only go around the sides but the most banging happens on the solid ends. Summer sun - I'll give the towels a try and see how that helps.

Have you tried rolled up towels down the sides and at the top. I roll large towels and place under the fitted mattress sheet so baby can't move about or near the bars.

We started using the air wrap bumpers when DS started banging his head too....from memory he was about 8 months. He's two now and still in his cot and we are still using them! We have the deluxe ones that are a little more padded and he snuggles up in the corner with his back to them :)

she's one of those babies.. i couldn't use the cot with any of my three, they would also bang their heads or stick their arms out and get them stuck. And bumpers aren't that good, an eight months old would easily push the bumper down. I don't know how wooden cots work with others, but i found the travel cot better. The mesh is safe and the cot can be easily moved between rooms.
