You definitely need a monitor but I honestly don't see the need for any fancy or expensive models. I got mine from babyshop and it cost 99dhs and still using it today 10 months later. The parent monitor has option of battery or plugged in so you can take around with you anywhere. We are in duplex villa and it works great.

we have the angelcare monitor with the sensor pad- for me its the best monitor around. tells you the temp of the room, the hearing quality is very good and the sensor pad is great for piece of mind.

Monitors are amazing, especially for first time parents! We have a Motorola BP something but as someone else mentioned in DSO they work in certain areas of teh house and not in others; it's hard to know unless you know your house very well (construction wise). But I think they all work great in apartments. If I was starting over I would first check the ipad apps as then you could have a wireless solution you could take with you easily, if that's not an option def get one with a camera, gives you so much more comfort.

We were given the Avent SCD603 one as a gift. It's been great for us as we can see her, hear and and also play music to her if we need too. I defo think its a must have especially if ur a worry wart like me. Unfortunately they don't sell this one here but u can get it delivered. Luckily Avent has a spare parts warehouse here and all the wires were the same so it was easy to replace.

The Angelcare monitor is pretty good (the video one). That way you can see your baby on the screen. Its great for apt but not in a big duplex or villa. I hear the ipad iphone are good but might have security issues. Ie other ppl can see your baby at times..not sure. Hubby mentioned it and said its not as safe..

Baby monitor is a must :) I started off with a BT 250 (Older model) bought in the UK which was excellent, in fact we still use it now. It has talk back, temp, lullabies, torch function. Fab monitor, worked great in all our apartments/villas until this current one in DSO which has a great big electrical thing right next to the stairwell so now the signal will only go a few feet passed that and not into our living room. Luckily the sound playback is so loud (on it's highest setting) that we can hear the monitor from our front room. When DS started in a toddler bed I bought a Motorola video monitor and the signal on that is even worse because of that great big electrical box so the monitor has to be placed at the bottom of the stairs only. The sound on that is not as good as the BT one. The video screen starts up immediately after you switch it on so I always leave it off and when I hear DS on the BT monitor I turn on the video one and can see what he's doing straight away. The camera can be stuck on the wall above the cot/bed with Velcro pads as it's very light. I love both the monitors. Look up the ping baby monitor and also if you have an ipad or iphone I think you can get a camera and use an app to watch/hear the baby/child. Our neighbour has a monitor that connects to their ipad and through into their speaker system. There are so many you can get. If you're a technophobe go for an easy video monitor that you don't need to connect through your wifi.

We have an Oricom brand and it is great except would be better in an apartment rather than a villa as there is too much concrete/steel at our place to get amazing coverage. Don't believe the coverage as most don't factor Dubai construction into the calculation. Ours is a video one and that is worth its weight in gold as you don't have to keep going in and out of the babys room to check what the noises were - great for first time parents like we were as everything is new. If I was buying one now I would get the unit that works through the wireless network so you aren't relying on the units range. There is a good looking one that works to your ipad/iphone etc that someone else has mentioned on a posting recently.

Hi Kelly, I received a monitor as a gift from UK, its the Tommee Tippee monitor which has a camera and a movement sensor pad..very high tech..cant wait to use it when our little one is born. My Dad ordered it from Amazon UK which is a fraction of the price of buying it here...he told me he researched all baby monitors and this one came up tops...it was just over GBP 130 from amazon and you would pay in excess of AED 1500 for it in the shops in Dubai..quite a difference. Good luck x

Hi Ladies Debating pros and cons of these.....trying not to buy too much rubbish that we might not need, but wondering about whether to invest in one. Any feedback on why you did/didn't, and which model you chose would be most useful. thank you!
