Hi ladies,

I'm looking for some advice on what you think are the best / most useful gifts you received while pregnant? My very best friend in the UK is due in February and I'm looking at things to get her for Christmas. Just wondering if there were anythings in particular that you used lots or found really helpful? Hoping to get her some she will use - either for the baby or for her.

Many thanks for any ideas!

These items were quite useful: -Car seat; -Phones: most parents won't bother buying it; -Babybjorn sling: very useful; -Play gym -Voucher to any furniture store for a nice and comfortable rocking chair; -New born bath tub The pre-paid cleaning service is a brilliant idea.

I loved my baby sling, as I have 2 kids, I found it great coz I could do my shopping with baby in the sling-also good for days when you need to do things and baby does not want to be put down.

I agree about not giving her clothes or even toys and she will get tons. I think baby books (for the baby) and music are nice. Other good presents are: humidifier, nursing cover, mobile for the crib, play gym, swing/rocker, bath time set.

I never really liked getting clothes as gifts as everyones tastes are different. Since she is in the UK I'm guessing she does not have a maid, best gift you get her would be a voucher/pre-paid cleaning service to come at around the 6 week post birth mark, or some sort of gourmet frozen food service to stock her freezer. I got a pamper voucher and it expired before I managed to use it (and my baby was 11 months old when it expired :() Best baby stuff was fisher-price rainforest playgym (not too ugly and easy to wash), mama's and papa's "nest" rocker/bouncer, miracle swaddles (you need several) and some baby einstein dvds. If you do buy clothes buy bigger sizes (6 months plus) as she will have tonnes of smaller sized stuff and they grow so fast at the start. If she doesn't have it already and this is her first child, the book "what to expect the first year" is quite useful.

One of the best gifts I got was a baby gym mat. My LO used it all the time. But as your friend's baby is due in a few months, she may have a lot of things in place already. I also loved all the clothes that I got. You can get some really cute outfits at Mamas & Papas. Quite a few friends bought me clothes from 3-6 months and 6-9 months so for the first year I really did not buy much clothes. As it will be chilly in the UK then, may a cute coat and hat would be nice. There are quite a few baby clothes shops in Dubai Mall.

New Mums receive so many, many gifts for the baby and so very few for themselves. :D How about a very cute outfit for the baby (there are lots of really gorgeous gender neutral ones around if you don't know what she's expecting) and a spa or massage voucher for her. If you go for a pamper voucher, be sure it has a looooooong expiry date as it might be a while before she finds the time to use it.
