I wonder if you can help an anxious mother please? I have often lurked on the forum but this is the first time I've posted.

My 3 month old daughter was born with a slightly flat head which seems to be getting worse, probably as she is such a good sleeper. We're doing the usual things of repositioning her, making sure she has plenty of tummy time and the minimum in a car seat/bouncer. She's also now able to sit for short spells in a Bumbo.

Does anyone else have experience of this? Is there a paeditrician either in Abu Dhabi or Dubai who specialises in this condition? I realise that I may be overeacting and that in most cases it corrects itself when the child is more mobile. But I would feel more comfortable having spoken to a professional and having it monitored.

Thanks in advance

Thank you ketieb. It's good to hear that a helmet worked for your daughter. Do you mind me asking whether she was treated here in the UAE? I have to admit that I am now in the process of arranging flights back to the UK as I haven't found anyone here who is able to help. We're undecided on what to do but feel that we may be better advised back home

My daughter wore a helmet for 4 months, and her head improved a lot. It is not something to worry a lot about. The only problem is that you have to remove 3 times a day to clean. I felt I could not caress my daughter as I would wilike , but for the rest, the child doesn't feel it at all.

Thank you so much plumie. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I have a nearly two year old as well as a four month old and so find it difficult to sit down to type anything without a little helper! It's great to hear something positive for a change! It's been very difficult to find anyone qualified to advise. I'll give the clinic a call. If anyone else in the meantime has advice on treatment e.g. repositioning/helmets etc, I would be very grateful.

Just checked with my friend and they are seeing Dr Gary Fitzgerald @ The Wellbeing Clinic on Al Wasl Road.

You might want to try Cranial Osteopathy?! Do a search on the forum as there are one or two Dr's who come highly recommended! A friend of mines baby has the same syndrome and since visiting the Osteopath they have seen major improvements! Good luck x

Thank you mpenny for your reply. I hope that things have improved for your daughter. I'm still concerned about my daughter although I can see that things have not got worse and that there may even be a slight improvement. As her mother and seeing her everyday, it's hard to be objective. I contacted Limbtech and they suggested a Dr Ayman Jundi of Royal Medical Centre/Clinic. I wonder if anyone has any knowledge of him or the clinic, please? It doesn't seem to be on our insurers list but I would be quite happy to pay if I heard positive things about him. The alternative would be to go back to the UK..

I just posted a very similar thread a week or so ago! My 3 month old daughter also has a flat part to her head. I had a complete melt down one night as I was convinced we needed to go back to the UK to get her a helmet. My paeditrician assured me she had no muscle problems in her neck (that can lead to flat head) and I am just doing exactly what you are in terms of repositioning etc. He said you have 4 months and then the shape of the head is set, so we have one month to go to try and limit the damage, if not reshape the head slightly. He said doctors in the US no longer advocate helmets, although I know there are now several clinics in the UK as if it's a severe problem that's the only answer. If you look at old threads there is a place called Limbtech in Healthcare City that will adjust helmets, but the doctor that people mention at Medcare doesn't seem to be there any longer. I hope it doesn't come down to helmet treatment for your daughter, I'm sure what you're doing will help, and they are afterall only 3 months. I'm hoping as long as we don't let my daughter's get any worse we'll be ok and she'll have a thick mane of hair to hide her uniqueness! :-)
