ladies...

i'm due to deliver my 2nd child first week of Feb and I'm just debating which breast pump i should use... will definitely need one as i go back to full-time work two months after i have the baby...

with my first i used the medela single electric and not sure why but after around 6 months i had exhausted my bm completely... don't know if the pump had anything to do with it...

then lent it to my sil and onwards to another friend and now the pump is not working very well (the last user claims)... so will need to get a new one this time round

looking at a double electric pump instead of the single... just to speeden up the process... Medela has two versions - one called Pump in Style and the other called Freestyle...

Do any of you have any experience with these? Or do u suggest another brand? Pls advise...

TIA

I would recommend Baby Pavilion. I was suggested the same by my Lactation consultant. They have a pretty good support team & they are the highest-rated TRICARE Breast Pumps provider. I ordered the Spectra breast pumps. I recommend the same. Spectra has Natural Nursing Technology which mimics natural breastfeeding. Spectra is quiet in comparison with Medela. Medela's suction leads to painful pumping and sore nipples. Spectra gives out a fluttering feeling like you would get when you’re feeding the baby yourself.

Another option to the Freestyle or PIS is the Ameda Lactaline (Purely Yours), which retails direct from the distributor in the UAE for 700 Dhs. I can post her details if you'd like. Hi BFC, Can I please ask you to send me the contact details of the distributor of Medela if you still have it? Thanks, edited by bamby02 on 15/04/2012

TIA AnC... if you're still looking for this here r my thoughts. i got the medela freestyle after a lot of research and the advice of some ladies on here. For me it was clearly medela over philips and i just had to choose between the 2 double models. chose freestyle in the end because of its USP :p. the ability to have hands free pumping sold me. in actuality - its not terribly comfortable or attractive to use the freestyle straps but none of the options to keep you're hands free are (including the bras you get to attach regular pumps). You should know that when you buy a double pump you get a lot of extras like a bag and keep cool stuff etc which you might not need unless you plan to pump on the go a lot, but thats the only option unfortunately - and it does make it more expensive. So here's what you can do: Option 1: its available on sale in baby shop for just under 1600. Option 2: I have the freestyle which i got for 2100. i used it only for 5/6 weeks on and off - not regularly, since I don't work; was trying to increase supply/get some sleep. long story short, BF didn't work for me. I'm happy to let it go for 1100 (i can also throw in some extras like unopened storage bags, breast pads and some spare parts). If you're comfortable with that its possible to just sterilize and use. i've already sterilized and put away in its bag. if not all the spare parts are available both in baby shop and online. Let me know if you're interested at all and i'll post my address.

I pumped for a year with baby 1 but rented a medical grade medela. I used to get 200mls per side in 10mins. I bought the freestyle for baby 2 and could only get Max 80ml in 10mins she wouldn't drink out of a bottle so I gave up. not sure if the difference in pumping is down to a pump or body. I used to pump 20 -70 mls with DD. Now, with DS it is 100+ mls - I am using the very same Freestyle. You can rent the breast pump (including hospital grade) in Dubai. Please let me know if you want contact details of the person who does rent pumps. Good luck!

whatever pump you buy, def get a double. When you add up the amount of time you will be pumping any amount of money is worth it to halve that time and spend it doing something else (like sleeping ;) ) regardless of pump long term pumping is notoriously hard to sustain, some of the other successful mums might have some tips for you in that area.

Thanks ladies... just saw all your messages... hmmmmm tough call I guess between FREESTYLE or PUMP IN STYLE... will have to decide between one of these... I was thinking of perhaps buying it online... AMAZON seem to have it on stock for half the price! :) The PUMP IN STYLE is selling for AED 965/- and the FREESTYLE for 1200/-... I have a friend coming down from the US in December... might ask her to get it in for me...

I use Medela Swing - single but works well for me. Double is better if you at work. Baby shop is much cheaper than Mothercare. Used NUK with first son and didn't work very well.

you can get the medela ones (and avent) from babyshop, I went to look this week the freestyle one was 2100 and the pump in style one was about 1740. I used the Philips Avent one for my last baby but all my medela friends seemed to pump in half the time so I am going to give medela a try this time around!

I have Medela Frestyle - came back to work when DD was almost 8 weeks and it worked really well for us. You can pump single or double and also it has a set up which imitates baby sucking pattern. HTH
