Hi Ladies,
Just wanna have a vent!
I am 17 weeks pregnant tomorrow and my Obs cancelled my 16 week appointment a few days ago. It has really got me down and I think hormones are slightly to blame... I think I was aiming for that appt as a sort of checkpoint- to get through all those weeks of tiredness and morning sickness which is only just clearing up now. Having that appt postponed by 2 weeks has made me feel disappointed, unsupported and sort of like just another number. Does that make sense to anyone?

I'm so frustrated that they have no back up plans for situations like these? I am trying with the Nurse to get another appointment this week (when reception finally answered) but it looks like I will not be succesful. I have a mass of things happening next week, all which cannot be cancelled in any way (flights have been booked etc) then I will then be out of the country for a few weeks until my 20 week appt.

What will happen if they cannot give me another appointment? Do I simply skip my 16 week check-up or find another Obs (which I really don't want to do). Should I go to my GP instead?

Would love to hear some suggestions :-)

Thanks Nutty, that does give me something to think about and puts it into perspective. It is an appt I feel I need but definately more for my emotions. I think because I am going on holidays I feel like I need to know everything is okay. I might just book in with my GP if an earlier appt doesn't come my way soon for that little bit of reassurance. :)

If everything is going good with your pregnancy, thank god and long may it continue. If the check up was just routine and wasn't to answer any major concerns then leave it till your next. I would hate to think that i caused a fuss over an apt when someone who is in real need (IE emergency) needed that apt and i took it only to make me feel better. It is disappointing when you have looked forward to something so much but if its not critical then a few more weeks wont hurt long term. Having said that i agree with a previous post where we are paying for an expensive service and do expect a certain level of service but this service is one where it is based on priority not emotions. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and delivery.

Thanks for your advice emanuela and nimonemo. The appt was cancelled because the Dr had to perform surgery, so I didn't complain at the time but I didn't realise how much I was looking forward to the appt until the day had passed. Maybe just to feel like everything is taken care of, this being my first pregnancy. Everything is totally fine, my 12 wk scan was good, i had the trisomy screening and blood tests which was all good too. I might have to try that out Nimonemo if my super sweet voice doesn't get me any results by end of today. They only have tues, wed and sun clinics with my Obs from what I can gather. :(

How do you feel? Are you experiencing any problems? If you feel good and don't have any problems I wouldn't worry - I find appointments with the Dr very useless to be honest. If you are having a normal pregnancy you don't need to see the Dr so often. Also, if there is something important you should know - results from your 12 weeks scan or blood test they would have phoned you by now - no news is usually good news! Having said that, if you still want an appointment, I recommend you phone again to the hospital and start saying you want to make a formal complain, you are a CUSTOMER paying for a very EXPENSIVE service, you need to speak to your supervisor NOW and all these carry on. It worked for me at American Hospital when I had an issue making an appointment and I got it exactly when I wanted

Hi, Did your doctor tell you why your appointment has been cancelled? In my case it happened once that one of the staff from reception gave me one date for my appointment and in the system was a different one and i was around 30 weeks pregnant; had to go to the hospital for nothing and then come back after a few days. If your appointment has been cancelled due to the doctor being away check which doctor is handling your doctor's patients and try to get an appointment.
