Hi ladies,
DS is getting close to 1 and is starting to take a few steps here and there so I want to get him some shoes :) He's been in soft sole leather shoes before but I want to get him something a bit more substantial, but something still breathable....maybe something like sandals? Where is a good place to find first shoes and what sort of shoes are best at this age? I'm at the marina end of town so would prefer recommendations at this end, but of course if all the best shops are on the other end of town I'll go have a look.
thanks!

Sydneygal...mine were in the soft-soled leather shoes (ours were bobux) until at least six months after they started walking. It's important for their balance and foot/arch development that they stay as close to barefoot as possible until the are really walking well. After that...definitely Clarks or Ecco or any other decent brand. Choose your store well! You want staff who actually know what they are talking about. ;) edited by Green-ish on 20/04/2012

We had our LO in Pedipeds (soft leather shoes) when she began to walk. She loved them and I'd like to get my next LO a pair as well. I thought I saw a stall that sells them in the Springs?

You are meant to keep them barefoot or soft-leathers until walking well and then you can move on to more supportive, well fitting shoes for when outdoors. We stayed in soft leathers for ages but had to switch after he wore holes in them all using his feet as breaks for downhill scuttle-bug triking!

There is a Clarkes in MOE. On the ground floor opposite Carrefour. Also Mothercare have a range of what they call first-walker shoes. edited by SEY83 on 19/04/2012

Wow! Thats brilliant!!! There is no stopping him now! :D Clark's and Pitter Patter are at DM. I'm not sure if there is a Clark's in MOE, but I would assume so (?) and there is a Pitter Patter stand outside Spinneys at Town Centre in Springs, but the one at DM would have far more stock.

I still cannot believe your little munchkin is nearly ONE! :D Take him to Clark's first to have his feet properly measured for length and width. We bought DD's first shoes at Pitter Patter and were very happy with them. You have to take note of which sole is the best for him at this stage, and for a first walker I believe its a soft sole, though my memory is cloudy so I stand to be corrected. I think you can get all this info in Clark's. Happy shoe shopping! I hate shoe shopping here for DD as the choice for girls does not excite me! LOL
