Flat spot on 3 month old..

My son appears to have developed a slight flat spot on his head; while everyone says that it will go away when he starts sitting up, I'm a little worried because he is my first born.

Did anyone have the same problem with their babies?

My DD has a flat left side. Noticed it about a week back. Since then have started to massage her head such that I do round circular movements around her hand, rub a little more on the right side and try and get her to sleep more on right ! And I do notice that the right side does not look as elevated as before. You can do nothing about the flat side, but you can compensate by working on the elevated side

You could just try putting baby's head to one side each time they nap. Changing sides each nap. I used a wedge to keep my son to the side a little. That way he wouldn't move. I did this til he was about 5 months. But then he still went back to sleeping with his head in one position but his head is not bad. But I think It would've been worse had I not rotated his head. My other 3 kids I did the same without the wedge as they didn't mind which way their heads were facing and their heads moulded perfectly. My grandmother always did this to all the babies in our family so I knew this had to be done from when they were born. I feel bad for kids who have flat heads cos their parents don't know what to do.

flat spots are becoming more and more common with the advice to sleep babies on their backs basically whenever he's awake put him on his tummy, as often as for as long as possible. if its bad then there are special helmets etc you can get to reshape the head, otherwise just lots and lots of tummy time while awake and hopefully it won't be too obvious once he has more hair. My son was born with a flat spot and it got less obvious but he is now two and his head isn't entirely symmetrical.

thank you for replying! he used to sleep a lot to his right..i bought him one of those donut shaped pillows for support when hes awake. i honestly cant tell if its improving coz im with him a lot. would going to a pediatrician make a difference?

My son always used to sleep with his head pointing to the left, and now as a 2 yr old he has a slightly flatter spot on the left side. I tried to get him to change his sleeping position, moving him from his back to his side and in the day when we would hold him or let him sleep on us we always made sure that side wasn't touching a surface but it didn't make any difference. Its not very noticeable anyway now and when his hair is slightly longer than shaved short you can't even see it. Don't worry too much about it just make an effort to stop it getting worse.
