Growth Spurts and BF-ing

Quick question - somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember (I think it was...) BFC saying that growth spurts are simply that - growth for LO's, not a way to increase supply. I realise it obviously does this for a few days with the cluster feeding - but I'm curious as to whether offering previously expressed milk to feed my hungry little man is ok or whether I should be offering my (painful and nearly empty!) breast continually whilst this cluster feeding is occuring???

When DD goes through growth spurts and I turn into a human feeding machine, I normally tank up on natural yoghurt & almonds!!! They are "good" fats and a great way to increase calories for the hungry critters :) Keeps them fuller for longer! I also cut out any expressing as this will make them unnecessarily engorged, as her constant feeding is enough to empty them every time and keep my milk supply up - if you get my drift?!?! HTH who needs "good" fats when you can have cake?! hehehe

Thanks ladies - I'm not sure if he's still cluster feeding today - yesterday was mostly in the afternoon anyway and today he's much more settled... we'll see! He could certainly do with the extra calories :) BF-ing isn't painful nutty, thankfully... just my nipples have been sucked on for far too many hours in the last few days - they're a little tender! They'll be fine in a day or so... will work on the food intake in the afternoons - don't have to tell me twice ;)

Breast feeding should never be painful regardless of how often you feed and milk is made on demand. Increase your diet in the afternoons to help with the quality of your milk.

I think it serves both purposes tbh... it'd be logical for bubs to need more the bigger and more active he gets, but I think the cluster feeding is also something they just get over. I see it in my toddlers - occasionally they're turn (not at the same time) into ravenous eating machines for a day or two and then calm down to their normal intake - which is gradually increasing.
