just received a memo today from insurance company stating ""Revised January 2011 - please note that City Hospital, Welcare Hospital & Al-Zahara Hospital are not covered for Maternity Services

I really wanted The City for it's private rooms, facilities and care.

What options do I have left? what other hospital besides Medcare (did not have good experience in past) do I have in terms of privacy, cleanliness and excellent facilities. American Hospital is out of the question as my insurance company are so cheap!
:(

DH asked the lady at work who deals with insurance and she's checked with NAS/QIC. Apparently it's all to do with some code you have printed on your card - I guess there are different levels of cover and different codes? But anyway he says ours still covers City, with a limitation of $7,500. If that's right, it's lower than it was last year when I delivered there. I'm not sure which agent ours is but I can ask DH if that will help? Hope you manage to get it sorted. I need to get DH to clarify this limit thing, because $7,500 isn't an awful lot if you consider C-sections and any possible complications. Re the 80% thing, I had surgery at American a few years ago on the understanding that I'd get 80% of the cost back as it was outside the network for my insurance company at the time. What they actually meant was that I'd get back 80% of their 'benchmark' figures for the procedure, so I ended up getting back around Dh23,000 out of the Dh45,000 I paid out.

It says NAS at the back of the card but Agent is Al Dhafra Insurance, so I suspect it depends who the Agent is? I am just in the process of doing some investigation with DH's HR and the insurance company, wish me luck!

If nothing works, can you still not deliver at City under the outside network cost? Will they not cover about 80% of the cost by reimbursement if you use a hospital outside their network?

Thank you so much ladies for the advice, I am with NAS insurance, not impressed.. I had never heard of International Modern Hospital but will got and take a look, is there any Gynae that you would recommend there? I suppose the location is a bit out of the way ie Bur Duba but I don't think I have many choices.. Dr Andrea is fantastic!! she's my gynae and doctor for DD's birth... well... I am living in Sharjah so nothing is beyond your out of the way :D S

I m also with NAS, and im delivering my 3rd baby at the American Hospital, direct billing ...so far its covering all pre natal visits and scan and will cover my c section. I reccomend Dr Raj she delivered my 2nd baby and will be delivering my 3rd in September. We do pay 10 % co payment though.

OP - im with NAS and delivered at American earlier this month. Not only was it fully covered but also used direct billing.... Contact NAS and double check that AH isnt an option. The privacy and facilities were top notch.

jeniawwad you have raised my hopes! I have asked DH to first speak to his company to see if they can just accomodate, my next port of call will definitely be NAS. I wouldn't mind paying a small amount either but at least I get my first choice, wish me luck! Holly thanks for the recommendation it really is appreciated.

Maaariyah, I would call a real person (whoever your claims contact is) at NAS. I gave birth at City in February. They did cover ALL my pre-natal visits and post natal visits. When it came to the actually birth/delivery they covered 7,500 AED for the delivery. I had natural delivery and the total costs for everything (including 2 nights stay) was 11,000 so we only ended up paying 3,500 out of our own pocket. Not super cheap, but i recieved amazing care and it was worth every penny. We too got the last minute update that they were no longer covering City, but when when DH spoke to someone there, they did cover a big chuck of the cost. I don't know if our case was special somehow, but it wouldn't hurt for you to double check!! good luck

She is from the Mitera clinic and she's great - very no nonsense. She is pretty busy though, so call asap if you're interested.

I gave birth at International Modern Hospital.. it's fab!! private room all to myself, everyone is very kind to me, from the nurses to the housekeepers to the lady who delivers the food.... there's even a little sitting area for guests to sit..nurses invited me to watch DD's first bath in the morning, they'll check to see if you're bfeeding correctly, another set comes in to check if you're healing properly and doc's come to your room to see how you are... I really recommend the hospital if your insurance covers it!! S

Oh dear, that's no good. It's very important that you feel comfortable in the hospital. I'm not sure where else you could go as I I feel City is the best followed by American... is there any way you could have your antenatal check ups with a doc that delivers at city and your insurance can cover them, then you deliver at city and pay for the delivery yourself? I know it's quite pricy though. What about Canadian specialist hospital? not sure if they have maternity there, but its worth checking out. good luck!
