Just got back from my sons mmr and chicken pox vaccine and his paed has given him an appointment in a months time for the first dose of the Hep A vaccine. I was looking at the government schedule and the next dose vaccines is at 18 months and Hep A does not seen to be included.

Any insights?

Defiantly regarding timing do it now. Whilst living in Bahrain coming from uk I wasn't aware my two even needed it. Got to dubai and yes I was asked so I looked it up and thought yes best to be safe. Than sorry. But my two are 6 and 5 and boy oh boy did I want to cry and never seen them so terrified. They have there last dose come September along with preschool booster for the youngest. I'm dreading it. Better to do whilst babies as they don't know what's coming bless them x

I would personally choose to give Hep A here as the water quality in the region can be questionable at times and this may be the easiest way for a baby/toddler to get sick, as well as by poorly washed fruit and veg. However I can't comment on the timing for the vaccine, I suppose since if it's not on the mandatory schedule you could do it whenever your Dr recommends or whenever you feel is a good time. I had Hep A as a teenager and had to spend 2 weeks in the hospital, would rather my kids avoid that:-)

hi laydeelay, I've done a bit of a research regarding vaccinations for babies in order to decide which ones I will give my baby. From what I found out, most developed countries (except the US) do not give Hep A unless the baby/mom are at certain risk group . This includes UK, France, Canada, Denmark and others. I'm not a doctor, just a future mom, and this is from info I have found on the net from looking at different countries' vaccination schedule for babies. I did not check the UAE at all mind you.
