Aww EmmaH, I know the feeling, all us mums do. You are so excited to meet your little one and soooo uncomfortable by now. From about the 37 week mark I just wanted so badly for my baby to hurry up and make her grand entrance but it wasn't to be. She was born at 1 day after my due date. I have been so thankful every single day since that she was not born before my due date. Not that there is anything wrong with the bubs that are (of course not) but I really think that its something kind of wonderful for a baby to stay inside the womb and come when he/she is ready, even if that means going past the due date. So long as the baby going past the due date isn't affecting yours or the baby's health then feel very blessed that your baby has stayed inside your womb for the full duration of your pregnancy.
Good luck and cherish EVERY second BEFORE the baby's birth, and after! Before you know it you'll be planning his/her 1st birthday party! :D
Lovely post Shellly.
You're right..."technicalities" aside, we all get anxious towards the end, or at least I did, and I'd say it's pretty normal.
You could look into getting Accupuncture done. Dr Ou is great and comess highly reccommended. It could help
move things along...
All the very best and enjoy this magical time...it goes by so fast.
Just to update (in case anyone is interested). Had my apointment on Wednesday, Dr did an internal exam (lovely)... he said babys head was fully engaged and he could feel the babys head during the exam.
Still no baby yet... got another apointment tomorrow morning to get a CTG scan. I know i should be enjoying the peace and quiet while i can but its such a chore doing anything, cant get comfy, hard to waddle anywhere and definately lacking sleep already.
Thanks for the responses!
Lock and load, baby! :)
Yay!
Awww... I wish I was pregnant again. I love this bit!

The due date is a bit of a funny one anyway. It's just a date that happens to be in the middle of what's considered to be the "at term" period - so anything from 38 to 42 weeks is perfectly normal and healthy... indeed, the duration of our gestations depends on our cycles - some have 28 day cycles, some 26, some 30, although the due date is calculated on the average 28 day cycle. One size fits some, and all that!

I was allowed to go 9 days here. Induced at American Hospital, 23 hours labour then told my DS was still too high and that a c-section was required! I was so tired and done by that point I gave in. Good luck and don't worry nature will take its course. I know you feel awful at the moment but your baby will be here before you know it. As hard as it is try to relax and put your feet up as much as you can.
When we were in Dubai and i was expecting nr 1 I was determined on having a totally natural birth and Dr Shiva @ medcare let me go to 42 weeks. I did have to go for CTGs ever day. It was well worth it, cervix was so soft and ready that it was such a fast easy birth!
Am now back in SA, 37 weeks along with nr 2....so over it now though that if I was offered an induction right now I would probably jump with joy LOL.........good luck!
Hey Emma... dont try to medically induce the baby to come.. let it come at its own pace.
Dont do it for your convenience... its going to come out for sure.. just a matter of a few more days..
I delivered a few weeks back, and i was feeling the same like you, tired, elephant, etc, so believe me i remember it still.
Ur baby will come when its ready.. in the meantime, try to relax, and do stuff u really enjoy, because a few days and u will be quite busy for yourself :)
Thank you H.A.K, the excitement is getting to me now just want baby here. I'll wait and see what they say today. I heard my Dr mentioning possible ageing of the placenta/quality deteriorating a few weeks bak but he has never suggested anything to get baby out quicker...
Thanks again
I'm surprised they didn't push to have bubs whipped out at 38 weeks! They'll probably suggest something today. I know my OB/Gyn was surprised when I told her I went 2 days over with my first... she would have had a fit with me going 8 days over with my second!
Oh, and don't believe the hype if they start telling you that bubs needs to come out because "it's too big"/ "your placenta is ageing"/ [insert scary-sounding reason here'>. These are exciting times for you - in any which way, it's only a matter of days.
In the UK, they will offer you 2 sweeps after your due date and then discuss hospitalised induction for your 41st week *in the case of a normal, uncomplicated pregnancy*. I was booked in for induction at 40+10, but had my second sweep at 40+8 and that did the trick.
Hi, a question for anyone who has had a baby over here...
How long do they let you go over your due date? I know in the UK it could be up to 2 weeks. I'm due in 2 days but have the Dr today and im dreading him saying the usual "see you in a week", so fed up of being the size of a baby elephant, not to mention the sore hips and back.
Is there anything i can say to the Dr that might speed things along a bit?
This is my 1st baby.
Thanks
