@che731, God bless you, life has a funny way of testing us sometimes and it will be extremely hard but time will heal and it will get better, your little angel will always be a part of you and by your side, no one can ever take that away! Hope you are coping ok with your gorgeous little boy x Sakn, hope you are ok? We used the nuk pacifiers for the first few months then they spat them out so don't use anymore, there isn't much for premies here but they grow so quickly they will fill out into the clothes before you know it. Mine were not responsive at all in the first weeks, they just slept all the time and fed so I wouldn't be too concerned at this stage, remember they should still be in the womb now so they won't have the same skills as a full term baba. Regarding the pediatrician, I just took them down to the a and e in city when I had any concerns and they were great, we then used various pediatricians in city in the pediatrics department when they had to have vaccinations etc, we also had a few follow ups with the nicu at city to weigh them just after we brought them home. We now use Dr Suzan in the meadows Mediclinic as we moved and have found her to be very thorough and excellent. Don't worry it does get easier! :) Mb xxx edited by Mummabear on 28/08/2013

Hi sakn Congratulations on your baby. I had a preemie at 26 weeks so extremely premature compared to yours but having been through similar issues I'm sure I can help. I didn't use any pacifiers for dummies as my DD never liked them. As for a bath we used to give one every other day with warm water and usually just a sponge wash on the other days. The docs I recommend are Dr. Talal Farha at healthcare city or Dr. Syed Rais Ahmed at city and kids first. If your baby is choking maybe the flow is too fast for him or he might have mild reflux which is common for preemies. We had a bassinet but didn't use it much our daughter preferred co sleeping so she slept in our bed.

Thank you mamabear. It was a difficult time and the longest 5 weeks. I still mourn for my other baby. Seeing the "double" stuffs we have at home still gives me PTSD. But i do have a beautiful baby boy And for now this is enough. I still thank God for letting me borrow an angel for 27 weeks. LO is lucky to have a companion for a while. :)

Hello sakn, I did not put him in a cradle. I just placed him on his crib. As long as we was swaddled he was okay. I (full) bathe him every other day, in the morning. On days i don't bathe him I (half) bath him with just warm water and wash cloth. Every evening, just wash cloth and warm water as well. Make sure you turn off the ac and have everything ready esp a thick towel just in case they get chilled. H We used baby first gumdrops pacies. He does not seem to like other pacies. We only use pacies when he wants to be fed and we need to warm his milk. We don't let him sleep with it. We are using avent bottles, but did notice he was choking a bit. So i checked the flow of each nipple and noticed that there were 2 that seems squirt instead of drop, all nipple are 1. I was able to buy preemies clothing at babyshop. They were on sale at the time so i was able to buy a few, good thing though coz he grew out of them so fast. I live in RAK so I don't have suggestions on the doc in dubai as well as for where to shop for preemie items. edited by che731 on 23/08/2013

Also my baby stiff his legs n spine sometimes and then relax,is it normal? What water should be used to make formula milk?shall i reboil the mineral water we use to drink? How to lay down the babis,on their back? Thanks will be looking forward to ur reply. Yes regarding water yes reboil water and allow to cool it and give formula edited by Leena125 on 20/08/2013 The stiffness is normal - at least it was for my son who was very stiff compared to his twin sister. Another of my friends also said her son was very stiff initially. I had my twins via csection at 38 weeks.

Good for you! I hope you are all doing well. Yes, I boil the water. My baby latched but was too lazy to feed (he was called Lazy Boy at the NICU). I started expressing as well and my milk stopped at 1 1/2 month. I really wanted to BF but he will just sleep when I hold him. We tried taking off his clothes, tickling his feet, even put some water in his closed eyes, but no avail. Yes, he slept a lot. I was very worried initially. Even now at 2 months my baby sleeps 15-20 hours a day. I guess they're making up for the time they are supposed to be in the tummy. I am giving my baby Liptomil 1 as prescribed by the doctor. My baby gained just a few ounces after 2 weeks. Then on the third week, he won't stop feeding and he was finishing 20-30 ml in every 1-2 hours. I was again worried! (Jeeezz!) But I read that they go through a growth spurt. I am not sure about the stiffness, you should ask your doctor. My advise is list down all your concerns and questions so you can the doctor on your next visit. Yes, I lay him on his back, all bundled up in his swaddle. But now at 2 months he prefers an adult pillow when trying to sleep, I still lay him on his back once he is asleep though.

Hi Sakn, congratulations on the birth of your babies!! Don't worry all will be absolutely fine. Mine were born at 31 + 4 and weighed 1.6 and 1.4 kilos and where in the nicu for 3 weeks. I went home after the 4 days as City cannot facilitate to keep the parent there anymore, but we were there everyday so I could express and give them their milk and cuddles. It really is daunting and scary to see them in the nicu but they are in such good hands and you will learn so much from the nurses on what to do and how to handle them, please make sure to ask them all your questions and concerns. Before you know it they will be home with you. They have to pass the main milestones like controlling temperature and sucking before they come home, but these things happen so quickly, we went in on Friday and where told that Sunday was discharge day!! Went you get them home you will be amazed how your maternal instincts kick in, and honestly with premies in the beginning they sleep so so much that you do have time to get used to them being around and all your set up :) They grow very quickly, get them into a routine, a plus point of bringing babies home from the nicu is that they are already in a feeding routine, ours where on 3 hourly feeds when they came home. I couldn't breast feed as they wouldn't latch, so expressed what i could and gave formula, the neosure similac is fantastic, they gained all the weight very quickly! Again don't worry you will be fine :) Do you have an email, I can email you if you like? Mb x edited by Mummabear on 18/08/2013

Hello Sakn, I posted the below reply on a different thread. I'm not mamabear but I am hoping I can help. =) First up, Congratulations!! I am hoping all is well with you and the babies. I also delivered at 34 weeks. I was allowed to go home the day after delivery but since my baby is still in the NICU, I opted to stay. My baby was at NICU for a week, he would have been allowed to go home at his 5th day but his bilirubin level went up at the day of his discharge. My baby weighed 2.14 kg though and I had steroid shot at 28th weeks due to some complications. So his lungs was okay at birth. In my case the doctors at the NICU told me that his weight was okay, he was breathing well, sucking (feeding) well, and was eliminating well. I guess these are few of the concerns that needed to be addressed before baby is allowed to be home. It really is scary to handle such fragile creatures at first. I was a first time mom and hubbie would not even hold the baby as he may damage him. When I took him home, I would almost cry whenever I'm changing his nappy, his clothes, his cap, they were too big! None fit! Even the tiniest socks and mittens would fall off. But babies are resilient, my 2 month old preemie has caught up size wise and weight wise. We had our check up today and the doctor told us that his weight and size is that of a normal 2 month old. He grew so fast some of his 0-3 clothes were not used! Now I am using some of his 3-6 months clothes. This is not to say I was not worried, I was so paranoid that every cough wants me to bring him to he ER! Just take it a day at a time and enjoy every day. It will be challenging but it will be rewarding as well. I'll watch this thread just in case you have any questions, as I said I'm a first time mommy so not at all an expert. hi,sakn here.hope you are doing well.
