I'm sure this has been asked before but I cannot find any previous threads on it when I look for it! We are traveling to Thailand with DD next month who will be 8 months old. She is currently bf and has started solids. I also pump and give her EBM at times (at night sometimes to ensure she is drinking enough and also so DH can participate). My question is what do you ladies do when you're on holiday. Do you take a sterilizer along? What about pureeing baby foods? How practical is it to try and do it in the hotels? I am happy to take a few bottles/packages of organic purees and fruits but would not like to give her only that for 10 days. Are there any tips/suggestions on easy gadgets etc one can take along to make my life easier there? I did see a machine at Just Kidding which was a sterilizer/steamer in one and I think it could also puree stuff so should I just buy that? Also, for the ladies using cloth diapers, what do you do when you go on holiday to hotels? Hand wash? Or just buy disposables? Sorry, lots of questions, but we're traveling in about 3 weeks and I need to start preparing!

Thanks for your responses. I did get a microwave sterilizing bag with the Medela small breastmilk storage bottles but have never used it! Are they re-usable or do I need to buy many of these (sorry have no idea and it does not come with instructions!). I probably will end up going with your advice though Kiwispiers and just bf the entire time as then I don't have to mess with sterilizers etc. I think we'll go with disposable diapers as I do not fancy hand washing for 10 days! I do have a hand mill so I can take that along and if the hotel can steam veg for me, I can puree it or even fork-mash it on the spot. Thanks ladies and Kiwispiers good luck with your trip - I have tried giving DD a bottle of organic purees here and there just to see if she'll take to them and luckily she does eat them, so at least I know I am okay in emergencies!

I used the Medela sterilizing bags for microwaves. The staff were happy to let me use the microwave to sterilize my pump equipment and bottles, spoons, etc. Highly recommend them. They are available at babyshop. DD was only 6 months old when we went so she was mainly eating fruit purees which the staff were happy to either let me make or gave me bananas to feed her. She was on one solid meal a day then. My sister on the other hand had bought a bag full of jars and organic purees and cereal for her 7 month old. He also enjoyed the fruit and the bread sticks in the morning. The staff would make him fresh juice as well. Neither of he kids fell ill and we somehow managed to have a great holiday too. Enjoy your vacation!

If you don't want to go packet mixes for the whole trip then buy the machine. I would buy disposables unless you are staying somewhere with a washing machine and dryer. Is she only on fine purees or could you buy steamed fish and vegies from the hotel restaurants etc and mash with a fork?. Am just going through the same dilemma today with DS (10 months) who has never really had packet baby food but can't quite manage adult food with his 2 1/2 teeth. Have bought a bunch of purees and plan to just buy plain vegies and meat as we go. (leaving tonight). If you don't give EBM often I would just BF for the trip, easier and safer and they tend to feed really well on the plane. edited by kiwispiers on 27/06/2011
