and obviously waking us and his 9 month old brother up in the process!! i really dont know why its happening, and he always wakes up screaming, whereas before he used to wake up happy. We've tried a Groclock for 2 periods now, with no luck (this is a clock that shows stars when its sleep time and the sun when its time to wake up), i've tried letting him scream blue murder until its an acceptable time ie between 6.30/6.45, and neither seem to work. He used to sleep happily till 7, and on occasions later (which felt like a miracle!!). He goes to bed around 7.15, and naps at lunchtime, i always have to wake him as he's so tired after 2 or 2 1/2 hours....and then he is super grumpy. Should i really cut back his day sleep? I have tried a later bedtime and he still wakes at the same time...
any advice please? It's horrible waking every morning to screaming children, and he is so grumpy all day compared to the little boy he is when he has a good night's sleep... Thanks!

oh i feel your pain, I have the exact same problem with my two boys 3.5yr and 2.5 yrs. In my limited experience i've found that putting them to bed later does NO GOOD. My boys currently go from 8pm-530am for nightsleep and they take a 2 hour nap every day. (i personally love the nap time b/c it givesme time for new baby or sleep, but i do force them to get up after 2 hours... sometimes its a bit miserable.. they'd be happy to go for 3 hours) I hate 530 and would be soooo happy with a 6am wake up. Here are the only things that have done any good for me. 1. get them outside for some good physical activity in the afternoon/early evenings 2. when they wake up, no tv or snack, they have to stay in their room and play with a toy til ??am (6am for my kids! ha!) 3. sometimes putting them to bed earlier helps... never makes them wake up earlier atleast :-) Regarding waking up the LO. are they in the same room? that makes it more difficult.

Weird I know but have you tried putting him to bed earlier? I always used to find that the earlier I put DS to sleep the later he would wake. They do say sleep begets sleep. I think the afternoon nap sounds fine, at his age they really still need a good day time snooze. Hope it resolves itself, I feel for you!

At this age they need only 11- 11.5 hrs sleep total. From the looks of it, the day nap is the problem. Either you have to cut the day nap or go for a later bed time .....

Jules i could have written this post aswell. DD for the last 6months wakes between 5 - 530 everyday, some day its 4am but i managed to wrangle her back into bed. She use to sleep till 7am and goes down between 7 - 720pm. I have shifted her nap to earlier so she is tired and goes to bed earlier in an attempt to get her to sleep more in a 24hour period when putting her down later didnt make a difference. I am at a loss and feel she isnt ready to drop her day time nap just yet. She sleeps only about 1.5hours so this makes no difference to the waking time, so i wouldnt cut it out or back for your LO either, they obviously need it. DD is also super grumpy now too, some days if i say its too early, its still dark you need to go back to sleep can work, however thats maybe 1 out of 3 times. Out of curiosity where did you get the clock from? Im willing to try anything also. DD is also waking DD2 up who is only 2months old. Hope someone can help us.
