Were you on the Emirates flight from BHX by any chance?! nope... from Gatwick! Apart from the storage issue, it was the best flight yet... not looking forward to June though, when I'm travelling solo with my 2 year old and 3.5 year old!

DS was 70 cms at 5 months & we used the bassinet on Emirates with no problems. It was a bit tight but he slept for good 2 hrs. The seat next to us was empty, so we used it when he was awake.

yeah, you'll be fine. Just curl him up a bit! lol! It's the weight limit that's more of a no excuses thing. In my 12-odd flights with a baby in a basinette seat, there has never been a spare seat next to us. The footwell, on the other hand... Oh, and please, please please... don't pack too much hand-luggage. I was on a flight yesterday and the people in front with a baby and toddler managed to fill up 2 whole overhead lockers with their junk (sorry, it was - there is no way on earth you need 2 mini-suitcases, 1 large hold-all and a huge change-bag, plus handbag and kid's backpack for a single flight... but then again, they'd decided that they needed to bring their own bedding)... so much so that my junk (1 mini-suitcase and laptop bag) for kids the same age had to be spread out in nooks and crannies all over the place. Rant over. Just pack light.

I think your baby will still fit in too. If not, they normally try to leave the seat empty next to you..Otherwise you have to hold him, but I wouldn't worry too much, they sleep most of the time. Just make sure that his nose is not blocked and breastfeed him or give him a sucker/bottle for take off and landing.

When they measure babies they normally pull their legs straight and kinna stretch them out a bit, so you should be ok. Your LO will probably just curl up his legs a little. I am sure you will be fine :) My DD last flew at 12 months and was much longer than that and I still managed to squeeze her in ;) edited by Maid Marion on 04/01/2011
