Hello,

Does anyone know where I can buy the cheapest nappies for newborns? I'm a spinneys gal but have realised I have to start making trips to carrefour or lulu to buy baby stuff as spinneys is more expensive right?

Thanks!

I know the Darlings brand diapers work very well and are a cheaper price. However, I am looking for the size 8 in the Darlings brand. The manufacturer discontinued this size a couple years ago. Does anyone know where I can still find these?

Thanks a lot ladies!! I never considered cloth nappies. The problem is that we live in a highrise building without a balcony so drying outside won't be possible. And weirdly enough we don't have the hose by the toilet! I do like the idea of cloth nappies - will def look in to it! I'm using Pampers Newborn for my little man at the moment. He is 2 weeks old (2.5 kg) and small so they fit well and think they will fit him for a while! Will try huggies too! Ok good to know there is not much of a price difference. Will check these stores out at some point! :)

I know you are talking about disposable nappies from the supermarket. But did you ever consider cloth ones? I use cloth at home and mostly disposables when we are out and about. They are sooooo different from the terry toweling squares of our Mothers days. I used to think cloth nappies were expensive and that it took a while to "pay them off" in terms of savings by not using disposables. Then I found that Lulu's sell really good cloth nappies with microfibre inserts that were just as good if not better than the ones I bought in Australia. They cost 14-25 dirhams depending on the design, and they had pop studs enabling them to be used from newborn to the hefty 18kgs that my 2 yr old is now. I reckon I have saved thousands over the three children with using a combination of mostly cloth, with disposables as back up. They just go in the washing machine after a brief hose down over the toilet, and the plentiful sunlight here does all the sterilization you could want. Greenish where are you???????

I used Huggies organic cotton for the first three months, than Pampers. The newborn size was 2-5 kg, so for a normal weight baby (cca 3.5 kg) this usually works for a month. As they come near the upper range of weight, you might find diaper too tight so move on to the next size. I buy nappies in C4, get them in bigger boxes as its cheaper. Try different ones and see what works for you. I didn't like Pampers initially, even sensitive ones. But when she became bigger (above 3 months), I found Pampers better than Huggies.

Buy a pack in a couple different brands for the smallest sizes. Figure out what fits your baby and works for you. As others have said, they will probably outgrow the smallest sizes quickly. I've found the prices aren't much different at C4, Geant or Lulu, so I shop wherever is more convenient. (If the cost savings were considerable, it would be worthwhile to make a stop that's out of my way.) But, when baby gets a little bigger, sizes 2,3,4 you will most definitely be best off to buy the mega-boxes whenever possible.

Preggo brain over here :) did not see the Newborn part. Those sensitive pampers are fab for the beginning, then as mentioned they grow so quick and then bulk shopping can be your friend. My son is nearly 2 1/2 and has never had any nappy rash with pampers, ever. So test first I suppose :)

Lol I think what you mean is who has the best price for the same nappies but my first thought when I read your post was " stop shopping at spinneys and use the money you save to buy your little person some decent nappies!!" Anyway if your babies are like mine they will go up a size after a couple of weeks so I wouldn't buy too many of the smallest size. I like huggies organic, pampers have always given my kids a rash.

if you want cheap diapering go for cloth nappies, .I wouldn't buy big box for begging as your baby might be allergic, geant selling bambino brand, which is really fine and little cheaper. edited by evelyn2000 on 12/05/2013

I would recommend buying the pampers 'mega boxes' if you are looking for good value and good quality nappies. You get them at the co-ops, Carrefour or lulu's. They don't always have them but they are a lot cheaper, so stock up when you see them. (It seems that anything cheaper than 1dhs per nappy is a good deal fyi)
