Ladies...

I am pregnant and want to be as organised as possible for when the baby arrives. Can anyone tell me how long it takes and the process for obtaining the babys passport?

The baby will be havng a UK passport, we are looking at travelling with the baby 4 weeks after its birth.

Also, will it need to have a visa for re entry? I belive this can take some time to obtain.

Any advise welcome - Thanks

My friend told me they have to have their 6 week check before they are allowed to fly ( Please do not quote me on this) If he/she has a UK passport i didnt think that they have a visa? Thanks Any advise welcome - Thanks no i had to take new baby at 3 weeks back to uk because his older brother was sick, it took 3 weeks back in the days when the embassy was issuing the passports to get the english/arabic birth certificates and the passport before we could leave the country.

I understand the process is to get the local Arabic birth certificate and English translation, get UK birth registration from British embassy (optional but recommended for future use) , apply for Uk passport through postal application to passport processing centre in Germany (the embassy here doesn't issue passports anymore), apply for UAE residence visa (to be obtained within 120 days of birth so I guess it depends how long ou plan to be in UK after the birth) If you're going back to the UK soon after the birth I understand there is a quicker process for getting a passport in the UK but in that case I would call the embassy here to see what travel documents you might be able to get before you can get the passport in the UK? Do you have copies of your long form birth certificates, these are needed for the UK passport where baby isn't born in UK.

Hi Norts, When I submitted my LO's passport application, it took 9 days from when I dropped it off at DHL until I received it back in my hand. Not sure about the visa as we applied for it as soon as we got the passport. We used Baby Steps for the visa application and it was done pretty quick (certainly within a week).

Hi Norts, I have no idea how long it takes to get a passport here as I had my children in the UK so applied for their passports there (it takes about 6 weeks by post in the UK, but you can get them quicker, or same day if you go in person, but I don't know if you can do that at the Embassy here). I can tell you that I then flew back with both of them from the UK and they just get the tourist visa upon arrival in Dubai, the same like everybody else. We then applied for their residencies here.
