Had my scan today and all went well. The last time I had the NT scan at a different clinic and nothing was really explained to me so it was great that the Dr went through so much detail whilst doing the scan and the consultation at the end where they discuss the results was really detailed. I found Dr Mirza really good and reassuring so I am glad that I decided to go there in the end.

I want to share my experience with Dr. Mirza at Fetal medicine. I did my NT scan with him yesterday. I went there and fingers crossed because of what I heard from you on this forum. I am not in a position to defend them, but I was very satisfied with their service and I found Dr. Mirza simply and sincerely GREAT. He was extremely professional, communicating with us during the scan, explaining and reassuring us that everything seems good. And they are doing the blood test in their center..within one hour blood result was ready..:)) I am sorry some of you had difficult and bad experience there. It can happen or maybe there was a misunderstanding. I admit that I had to wait about 2 hours to finish, but Stffs were updating us about waiting time, giving information about scan, blood and final result. They were fully booked yesterday, and while waiting for my scan, I could hear one patient coming from Doha just to do her scan with him talking about her previous good experience and how Dr. Mirza’s skill are well recognized even in Qatar. I felt myself in a highly professional entourage. Everyone knows well his work. And I was so happy at the end; I got a dvd full scan for my baby. seeing my baby sucking his finger was my precious gift for Christmas and new year..<3 Niggly good luck for tomorrow, plz update us about your result, hope everything will go well.good luck again… edited by serena11 on 28/12/2011

We also had a positive experience with FMC and Dr MIrza for our NT scan, found him to be very knowledgable and explained everything we could see on the screen. The machines and facilities were great and we were pleasantly surprised to get a DVD of the whole scan at the end. We ended up having to wait till the next day for the results of the blood test as there was a technical issue with the equipment but they had told us about that in advance and it was fine. Hope test goes well with your test!

We had all three doctor recommended scans with Dr Mirza. Scan wise I thought he was very good, let us know what we were looking at and what it all meant. Do agree he is a bit odd - but i got the impression that his sense of humour just didn't translate very well. We requested him each time for continuity. Good luck with your scan - it is lovely to see your baby in such great high res - soooo much better than the hospital ones.

Niggly: good luck ...i think your decision is the good one.i called my obs/gyn yesterday..he gave me an excellent feedback on dr. mirza, he is practicing as fetal medicine specialist since 1994..and it seems that all gyn in dubai are referring difficult cases for him for second opinion..who knows,we may meet at fetal medicine center. my appt is on tuesday..)))) I have my appointment on Thursday. Good luck ... and let us know how it goes.

Great advice Sandfly. Serena111 - after some thought I am going to stick wtih Dr Mirza. I didn't have any issues with his bedside manner last time. I seen him twice during the last pregnancy as LO had a hole in the heart. I think I am just worried about this NT scan so want to make sure I am going to the right place. Hopefully all will be fine! Good luck with your scan too :)

I hope so, serena. Just don't let him stress you about a little thing - he will tell you *everything* out of the ordinary that he finds, even if the chance of it meaning anything bad is tiny... before you either get stressed or get any more tests, ask your OB what the risk is. That is part of the 'art' bit; the deciding what to do next, as well as the actual bedside manner. Because it isn't just 'Ok, result A therefore do B' it is weighing things up....

sandfly: your post is for me a stress relief..i have my scan next week with dr. mirza..your comment that he is **unbeatable at the science** means for me a lot..then i can trust his performance..at the end he will not be my gyny. whole pregnancy to worry about his attitude..what do you think..

What a couple of doctors here have told me is that Dr Mirza is technically excellent, truly world class. However his manner is not excellent (one put it as 'medicine is both a science and an art. He is unbeatable at the science and abysmal at the art' or words to that effect).

i read in a magazine that at fetal medicine, they will reach this month 20 000 patients...!!! my husband and i are wondering that if they are so bad, how tcome they could reach this number of patients? Do you know other medical center giving NT result in one hour other than fetal medicine? so i can call and reqest? and i don't want a sonographer to do my scan, what i like in fetal medicine is that physicians certified from fetal medicine foundation are doing it,,,(my Dr. explained to me all details and he highly recommending them) ..so plzzz suggestions!!! edited by serena11 on 22/12/2011 Dr. George (ex AH) at nine medical center also have reports available the same day, I specifically asked them this question as i am travelling the day after my test and wanted my results right away.

Is there normally a waiting list for NT scans or can you get in quite quickly? At my next dr's appointment i will be 11 and a half weeks. Should i be booking something before this appt or does the dr normally organise it for you? TIA NT is usually done from 12 to 13 weeks i could easily get an appointment so i would suggest you book it after your doctors appointment and your doc can talk to you about the test in detail if needed.

From my own exPerience I would never return to Dr Mirza. I still cannot believe how unprofessional he is. If you do a search on here I think you would be shocked at the many poor reports from this man. I would like to know what the alternatives are in Dubai? Has anyone any positive experiences of NT scans with other Drs at other clinics?

niggly: i am surprised how come you had a good experience before with dr. mirza and now you are worried just because of hear say? in fact we have to take the positive side of your experience that shows how professionnal they are at fetale center instead of following thoughts .. edited by serena11 on 22/12/2011 I did not have the NT scan with him on the last pregnancy, I just seen him for the organ scan. I am worried about the negative feedback relating to the NT scan in particular that I have read over the last year. I'm not going on hearsay, but feedback from actual patients.

Thanks ladies for the replies. I seen Dr Mirza when I was pregnant last time and he picked up that my LO had a hole in the heart, where as my own doc had missed it. I had no issues with him then, but over the last year I have read lots of stuff on here about other people's experiences that worry me. This time the appointment is booked with a different doctor there. Can't remember his name. I am not tied to going there so I will try another doctor.

I am not sure about the costs since insurance covers the test but im booked into see Dr. George at nine medical center. I once accompanied a friend to her test with Dr. Mirza and he said the meanest things to her, he maybe the best in his work but i dont want to deal with a doctor who doesnt even have basic respect for a patient.

Hi Niggly, I saw Dr Mirza at FMC 5 weeks ago, my husband didnt like his attitude AT ALL. All results came back REALLY GOOD ... but he 'noticed' a few things that didnt look too great... first baby for us and didnt really explain too much to and to come back in 3 weeks for an invasive test. Our doctor wasnt happy with what he told us at all and told us not to go back.... If you can get booked in with another doctor i would recommend not going to him... HOWEVER if you can only go with him make sure you ask LOTS of questions and you can claim back 1550aed on your insurance- we could anyway. good luck x
