I'm one week away from my due date and just realized last night that we don't have an attested marriage certificate to apply for DS's birth certificate!!!

I could kick myself for not looking into this further when I first started maternity leave. Now I'm so stressed / worried about it. Have to apply for a marriage certificate and have it attested in NZ, then couriered up here and have it attested here. Just looked on the Dubai government website and saw that baby must be registered within 30 days and you have to have an attested marriage certificate for that. I thought we had 120 days to do this, but on further investigation it's 120 days for residence visa. I could cry!! We've never needed an attested marriage certificate until now as I was working here sponsored by DAFZA and not by DH. What a night mare and not what I need a week out from D'day!!

I'm all for an easy life ... once you have a baby you have enough to think about! You need to give them both of your passports, the birth notification which the hospital should give you when you are released and a copy of your marriage cert. I did the 24hr service which is aobut 100 dhs more than the 3 day service. Good luck :)

Thats good to know Sapphire99 - thanks for that. I will give them a call in the morning and find out what I need to do. I'll still go ahead and get our marriage certificate attested in NZ and sent up here because I don't plan on returning to work so will have to go onto DH's visa and assume we will need one for that. Thanks again!

I've just got the birth cert done and was also panicking about the timings as we were waiting for DH's visa to be processed which tookk 6 weeks due to a blunder at the freezone. We used Baby Steps for the registration and had it done 7 weeks post birth and had no issues or fines. We also only needed to provide a photocopy of our wedding cert and did not have this attested. They turned up to my house one day and collected the paperwork and the following day I had the Arabic certificate with an English translation delivered to my house. When you have a new baby you don't need the hassle of running around getting the cert, so I would highly recommend this company.

Thanks so much designbabe - that is a load off my mind! So many little things that you don't think of when you're having a baby away from home. And this being our first adds to it all!

please dont worry. we ended up doing DS2's birth certificate almost 6 months after he was born (lost the original birth notification so had to get another one - long story) and there were no fines. once you get the birth certificate , its then passport and visa- which should easily be possibel within 120 days. you wont get fined if you do the birthcertificate after 30 days.....HTH
