Quite teary eyed so please excuse me if I'm rambling. I'm wondering if anyone can help me or share dr/doula or midwife. You see I just found out I'm eights weeks pregnant and came about two hrs ago from medcare where I met a dr who didn't care that I was hurting and i literally was screaming and asking for it to be out but she pushed forth during the insertion. I have difficulty with insertion. Does anyone know anything I could do expand or a dr who actually takes time with you or understand this issue. This is my first pregnancy and I have no close family or friends here. All are in canada. So I'm in need of help. Please.

hey big hug and congrts to u... :) i just found out today that i am preggers!! so happy. anyway check the previous thread here. there was a mention of a doula here who is very good. check the pregnancy forum. as for doc my exp with medcare was not good so i didn't went there again. if you want you can go to my gynae. i have been with her for almost a yr now. she listens to u and was there with me in difficult times. plus she keeps update of her patients. you can give her a shot. and she delievers in city, international modern and one more hospital which i dont remember. just go and see if she is upto your liking. her name is Dr Nirmala. she sees at Dr sulaiman al habib medical centre in healthcare city. just next to city hospital. this is the centre's no-044297777. hope that helps. where do you stay dubainewbie? edited by manubhadauria on 22/08/2011 oh manubhadauria..sorry 4 late response..saw ur question ...:O) i'm in tecom beside greens. :O) Ooh and congratulations! Hey, congrats first and second - most doctors here are not so good if I may say or at least my exp. was like that. When I was pregnant after some exp. like yours I found Dr. Galia in Belhoul. She was great, very gentle and helped me a lot. She is Bulgarian I think. Hope this is some help :) Good luck to you and don't stress

HI. I too have difficulty with insertion and am on my second pregnancy. I know breathing and and relaxing is suppose to help..but it still is VERY difficult especially in a dr's office!!!. :) I second Dr. Badi at Health Bay Polyclinic. I have NEVER had an internal Ultra sound there- they are all external. The only internal exam you have to have is the Strep B swab (like a pap) after 36 weeks and if you tell her you have HUGE issues with this she is VERY gentle and will be unbelievably patient and kind. She delivers at American and City Hospital. I had my first with her and am about to have my second. She is up for anything and will work with you through your pregnancy and delivery to do what is right/best for you. She can come across as a little "cold" at the beginning but if you talk to her about your worries and concerns she will open up a lot. I am really sorry your first US for your first pregnancy was soo traumatic. This is suppose to be such a lovely time. I hope your next one is much better and you come out with tears of joy. Congratulations!

What an awful experience for what should be such a happy and exciting occasion. I have been to a couple of docs in Dubai (in my quest to find the perfect one) and I am happily with Dr. Raj at American. However, I would have happily gone to Dr. Christian Josza (was at American and now at City) (in fact, I found Dr. Christian a bit more sensitive and gentle than Dr. Raj..., but I still really like her!). However, I like getting my scans done at Fetal Medicine in Health Care City--Dr. Misra (a man) is also very gentle. One tip is that he tells me to cough before doing the exam and that seems to help a lot! The good news is that after 12 weeks, you will probably not have to have an internal scan again! Good luck and sorry you had to go through this...

Congratulation DN on your pregnancy, and sorry to hear about your experience. If you opt for internal scan (I did in the past) a bit of breathing (deep long exhale) helps a lot. I can recommend dr. Badi in Health Bay :) I reckon you will not have internal scans past 8 weeks, but I can only recommend ''breathing out'' with any internal exam. PS. dont forget to breath in ;)

Explain what has happened and just ask for an external scan. I've had two miscarriages already this year and have come to realise that Doctors don't always know best and don't always takes patient concerns seriously. The one who wanted to do my internal scan hadn't even read my notes - 1st pg ended in early miscarriage and I'd had a bleed the week before (all ok, but still), so absolutely no way were they disturbing things down there.

I know wat u mean.. i hate them ****** vaginal scans and have refused them ever! As hello again kitty says, refuse anything that u are uncomfortable with.. no doctor has a right to force u to do what they want.. internal scans, pelvic exams, etc etc... nothing needs to be stuck in there for a check up! So many lovely doulas in dubai, Elizebath bain, silvia winkler, andrea guy, do a search for any of the names and u shud be able to find contact info.. al highly recommend! Oh and I highly recommend Dr. Elsa at city hospital. She definitely doesnt force u to do anything u dont want to, unless u or the baby;s life is in danger. <em>edited by shaf on 22/08/2011</em>

I know how you feel, they're not nice. For my first pregnancy, I got fed up of that sort of thing as I don't think it's always necessary. I had the internal doplar for the first 2 appointments and also an internal exam right at the end of the pregnancy and it was so painful (and not necessary, I knew I was not in labour!) that at the next appt I refused another internal. This was met with shock/horror that I had questioned the doctor. But I felt that the 'necessity' did not outweigh the pain that would be caused and the doctor could not give me a sound medical reason for conducting another internal. Refusing something is not always easy here but remember it's your pregnancy and your body - trust your instincts and don't be pushed about. For my second pregnancy I was determined not to be 'poked, prodded and 'over-medicalised'. I was with Dr Raj at the American and chose when I wanted to go in for appts and only had scans at 12 weeks and 20 weeks and then one more at about 34 weeks. I had no internals whatsoever. As it's your first pregnancy this may not suit you as you may want the reassurance of more appts and scans. But I would say if you're not happy with the doctor and had a bad experience at your first appt, then definitely change if you can. I would definitely recommend a doula, I had the same one for both pregnancies and was so glad I did. Unfortunately she has moved out of Dubai now otherwise I could have recommended her. I can speak to her to see who she recommends but I'm sure the other ladies on here will be able to as well. You poor thing! Internal exams are horrible. I've had my fair share over the past few months. Hello.Again.Kitty is right. At eight weeks an internal is not necessary. I had an external (with an empty bladder might I add) at just over 6 weeks and saw the baby and the heartbeat. Contact City Hospital and book an appointment with Doctor Elsa or any of the Doctors that these ladies suggest. Explain what has happened and just ask for an external scan. I've had two miscarriages already this year and have come to realise that Doctors don't always know best and don't always takes patient concerns seriously. Always get a second opinion if you are not happy. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy hun xx

You poor thing I can imagine you feel quite violated. :( Yes internal scans are not fun, you only really have them early on (from about now the external scans are fine) and can definitely refuse if you'd prefer. Find a female OBGYN, and take a good friend or doula to give you support and who can explain your issues if you feel to shy to do so yourself. Probably you are tensing up which is making insertion painful, difficult to relax when a Dr wants to put "you know what", "you know where" though I know. Big hugs and hope all was well with your baby, who you hopefully got to see, despite your unpleasant day. xx

I'm guessing it was for an internal scan. OP, if you are not comfortable with any aspect of what a Dr is proposing, then simply refuse. You only need 2 scans during a normal pregnancy and neither of them need to be internal. I refused an internal scan when I was 12 weeks with my second. Told them "not on your nellie, get the proper one out" and they did. Be firm. It's your body and being pregnant is not an excuse to violate you or treat you like a piece of meat.

By the way, eight weeks is early so don't panic if you don't see a doctor straight away. However, I highly recommend either Dr. Elsa at City or Dr. Grace at Dubai Mall clinic.

Elizabeth Bain comes highly recommended among others. She is an experienced doula which in your case would be needed instead of a trainee. Im sure she can also advise you on which doctor to go to that actually listens to your want and needs. http://www.doulasofdubai.com
