AA82, I also don't want to argue but I do want to make a couple of points regarding your post. I know you're trying to help the OP feel like she's not alone (and she most definitely isn't), but... She doesn't need to introduce herself to the new person she's become if she has PND. This new person[b'> isn't her[/b'> - it's an altered version of her, due to the chemical imbalances in her brain caused by the hormone fluctuations of pregnancy and birth. No woman wants to introduce herself to a person who is so badly affected by PND that she doesn't want her baby. No woman wants to introduce herself to a person who is so badly affected by PND that she can't function and ends up sobbing in the shower for hours and banging her head against a concrete wall until she sees stars. Support and natural therapy can be incredibly helpful when treating PND. Taking medication, though, may very often be required as PND is so biological; as far as I understand it, most doctors agree it is almost 100% caused by chemical imbalances in the brain and while some women can muddle through, or find relief through counselling and other such therapies, many, many more need the help of anti-depressant medication (in conjunction with counselling and other therapies) to right the imbalances. There is a stigma attached to taking medication for mental disorders and it needs to disappear, soon. DubaiNewbie2010, if you're on Facebook try searching for Out Of The Blues. It's a new support group set up to help women just like you and I hope you get the help you need.

I know that the counsellors at the German Neuroscience Centre in Dubai Healthcare City are amazing. They do have a psychiatrist there too who is highly qualified but I can't personally recommend. Otherwise, do see your gynae and I'm sure she will be able to help by making a referral for you.

AmyAus82.... It's comments like this that make my blood boil. Yes, practically every new mum suffers from some kind of "Baby Blues", as the body adjusts to changing hormone levels... Perfectly normal. BUT... Not every new mum will suffer from post natal depression, which, incidendtly, is a debilitating and potentially devastating condition. To advice the OP that it is common and more or less every new mum will feel the way she is feeling at the moment is, at best, patronising, and at worst, dangerous. OP.... I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations for you, but I'm sure someone will come along with the name of a good doctor. I wish you all the best. xx

Can anyone recommend a good psychiatrist for ppd? Preferably a female. :( Hi DubaiNewbie2010 So sorry to hear about the ppd. I can't recommend anyone as am new to Dubai but I suffered horrendous post natal depression with my little girl and spent months going on alternative therapies in the end went onto medication 6 months in. I was terrified of leaving the house too. I agree with katnip, try and get out a bit and talk about it to friends and family. All my friends thought I was fine for months until I spoke about how I felt. I did reiki which helped me a lot, am sure there must be registered reiki practitioners around if you like alternative methods. Just wanted to say that if you need someone to chat to who has experienced it, feel free to let me know. I spoke to friends about it but it would have helped me if I could have spoken to someone with the same feelings as me. Thinking of you.

OP, been there, done that. Thankfully second time around it wasn't so bad. What I found helped the most was talking it out and NOT bottling up your feelings, no matter how trivial. It helps tremendously to have someone to talk to, a family member or a friend, preferably and ideally your mother or a close blood-related female relative who has had children. She will know exactly where you're coming from. Don't let the baby stop you from doing the things you love, is my topmost advice. If you like to draw, then take maybe even 10 minutes and draw something. If you're nursing, have a book that you enjoy and re-read it. Watch cartoons, make jokes, get out of the house with your baby. Just walk outside and reflect on how much more beautiful your life will be with your baby once the first horrendous year is over (where there is little sleep and consequently little sanity). Remember that this too shall pass. God bless and good luck and I hope you find a doctor. Surprisingly, I've found the doctors at The Dubai Mall Clinic to be very professional and able. Why don't you try giving them a call? xx
