pregnancy blood tests

hello

i had a scan on 4th april and dr couldnt see anything ( i had done a hpt and was negative but period was 6 weeks late). dr said to do a blood test to make sure and the result came back positive (reading of 13mls). I repeated the test 48 hours later and it went up to 40. I then went on holiday for a week and had another blood test which came backk with a reading of 7000.
Dr then did an internal ultrasound. She could see the pregnancy sac, yolk sac andd placenta but couldnt locate the fetal pole. I had another blood test on thursday which came back at 20,000 and then one yesterday which has come back at just over 30,000. dr said that the numbers should be doubling every 48 hours. When i have looked online it says every 48-72 hours.
I now have to wait until 7th may for another scan!!
I dont know what to think....are the numbers going up enough? if they arent why not? will she see anything at the next scan? i dont really know how many weeks i am!
Has anyone else been through this and could shed any light on the numbers or just give me your experiences.

thanks (i have a feeling this is going to be the longest 10 days of my life!)

Hi Emily I went through EXACTLY the same thing - no fetal pole seen at 6 weeks - I went through this the same dates as you did. I was devastated and unfortunately read too much on the internet (bad move) scaring myself so much that I was convinced I had lost my baby, so spent 4 painful days crying and worrying - only to find that when they scanned me 4 days later there was the little embryo with healthy heartbeat! I know what you mean about being overcome with emotion - I was sobbing right there on the ultrasound table! I am due 26 December, so 2 days after you. Good luck with your pregnancy - so pleased your scan was okay in the end - wonderful news!

Hi Emily that's great news congratulations!!! I'm only a few weeks behind you then. Got my scan on the 26th of May and think I'll be 7 weeks then. How have you been feeling? I've been pretty tired in the evenings and still getting some tummy cramps but generally ok. It's all so exciting, can't wait for my scan. Xxx

Don't read stuff on the internet, it will just drive you crazy!! Going up is a good sign - all you can do now is wait. Good luck!

Oh I am crossing everything for you. The wait is worse than even bad news as dealing with the unknown is a killer. I had the same thing happen, and unfortunately we were not lucky enough to have a successful pregnancy this time. The numbers slowly increased for just over a week, and then started to slowly decline. Seeing that little bean of a sac with no heartbeat was heartbreaking! I was bleeding though, so that's different from your circumstance. So I'll be thinking of you and sending positive energy, and i hope we both have some great news soon x

(HUGS)) Emily, I know how stressful of a wait this can be as unfortunately, I've experienced it all too many times. It sounds like you very likely ovulated later this cycle, so despite being 6 weeks "late", you caught the pregnancy very, very early. (13 is generally too low to register on a home pregnancy test.) My OB at home never had me come in for an ultrasound until my levels were at least 10,000 and hopefully higher because she said levels lower than that meant the chances of seeing much of anything on ultrasound were pretty low. Sounds like they actually could see a lot on your ultrasound, but it was probably too soon for a heartbeat. If you aren't bleeding or having serious cramping, take that as a good sign. Once the numbers get higher, the doubling times are much, much slower, so I wouldn't stress too much about going from 20,000 to 30,000. Hang in there. All you can do is to try to take this one day at a time. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy.
