From personal experience I would definitely NOT go to Fakih. No patient/doctor relationship and they are only too eager to advise you to have IVF at 30k a pop without even taking a blood test or even checking that you are producing eggs. The clinic feels like a cattle market and your wait will most definitely be around an hour for a 5 minute consultation. There are far better clinics out there. DGFC gets my vote

Best IVF Clinic in the Middle East is Bourn Hall in Dubai. They are a branch of the one in UK, Our first consultation with Dr. David Robertson lasted for for over an hour. He was so nice, and the Nurses have actually become my real friends, and they were always available to speak to me After checking the others in Dubai, Bourn Hall was the last place we didnt check, and we couldnt believe our eyes when we walked in, it felt like a 5 star hotel. I think sub-consciously because we were so happy at Bourn Hall and with their facility that it transmitted to success after our first cylcle after having 4 failed ones before in a span 10 years. We were about to lose hope, and it caused a big strain on my marriage.

I would go and make appointments with a few clinics first and decide on your own opinion of the Dr. We first went to Dr Fakih in 2009 and didn't like the look of the clinic or him, he was very cold and our appointment lasted 5 mins literally! We were lucky as we didn't realise that on that visit we were already pregnant. My DH then was diagnosed azoospermic so we went to Dr Munira in DMMC on reading how great she was on here and did ICSI with her and Concieve. She did not do any tests on my DH despite us asking as she was convinced he had a blockage in his tubes resulting in no swimmers. I kept pointing out sometimes he did have a count of 300 and sometimes 0 so how could that be a blockage. She was adamant. Our first round with them failed due to only 2 of my 12 eggs collected showing any signs of fertilisation and even though there were only 'signs' of fertilisation they still put them back despite them not having any chance. This was the worst experience of my life. I couldn't do any more IVF for a few months after that as my head wasn't ready. When I felt I could go through it again I made an appointment and e-mailed Dr M a week in advance saying that the appointment would be a follow-up from the failed cycle and to start a new cycle and I would like to know my egg grading as they had never told me. She forgot her notes from conceive so that was it for me and I wouldn't say I thought she was a good Dr - here's why: We went to Dr Fakih again in May 2013. He has new premises and was a completely different person to the last time we met! He scanned me and said I had a huge cyst which he then aspirated the next day. He listened to our concerns about my DH's fluctuating swimmer count and immediately tested his hormones which were found to be low and he prescribed 4 shots of HCG to be taken once a week for 4 weeks. These shots would encourage DH's body to produce more sperm. We were due to start IVF on 23rd June but my period never came :) Can you guess why??!! The injections had given my DH super-sperm and his count went from 0 - 300 dead sperm to 42 million swimming sperm and we were lucky to achieve natural pregnancy. I will say f you have a gut feeling about something go with it no matter what Dr says!! Good luck whichever you decide on.

Hi Spinnaker Very best of luck to you. I have cycled at both Fakih and Conceive and had BFP's at both. It is very much a personal experience. I could honetly not say that one was better or worse than the other though as it really is swings and roundabouts. I have a friend who was also very happy with DGFC. Regarding freezing embryos, as Mummabear says the law does change a lot around this and also you may find it differs from Dubai to Sharjah so check with Conceive too. I have frozen at both on different occasions (law permitting at the time). Oh and the Doctor at Conceive who operates out of Dubai Mall is either Dr Munira or Munara I think. Very best of luck to you. It's a rollercoaster of a ride and I hope you have a successful result. xx edited by confusion on 28/07/2013

Hi Spinnaker, We were lucky when we did our ivf it was still legal to freeze them, shortly afterwards it was made illegal, if I were you I would call Dr Fakih and ask them what the story is. It seems the law is always changing when it comes to this subject. Hope this helps :) Mb x

Hi Mummabear, I saw somewhere that in Dubai you cannot freeze embryoys due to the law, but it seems it is doable as you have done it?

Hi MQ, I can personally recommend Dr Fakih, the clinic is fantastic and he now has some of the highest success rates in the world. We did two awful failed cycles with Dr Pankaj at Conceive and then changed to Dr F where I got pregnant with twins and have three blasts frozen. It is quite personal so maybe check them all out and see, but this is my opinion from my experience. Best of luck! Mb x edited by Mummabear on 27/06/2013

Hi MQ I have insider know, edge that make me recommend Bournehall first and formost before anyother clinic. Some of their staff have worked at the best clinics in the world with the highest fertility rates. As I understand it, much more aware of the best methods for IVF. Im currently having problems myself getting pregnant, so Ive quizzed friends about this alot. I wish you well on your journey!

Hi MQ, There are 3 well known clinics in Dubai - Fakih IVF, Bourne Hall (both in Jumeirah 1) and DGFC (in Healthcare City I believe). On the Dubai side of Sharjah there are also Concieve and New Hope . I believe there is also a lady Dr practising out of the clinic in Dubai Mall (sorry I can't remember her name but maybe one of the other ladies on here will enlighten you or maybe do a quick search) who does the retrievals/transfers in Sharjah but all the other stuff here in Dubai. I would recommend you google all of them, have initial consults with as many as possible and then go from there. One thing I learnt very early on is that on this undignified emotional rollercoaster of a journey you need to be comfortable with your Dr and surroundings as much as possible as well as with the standard of care offered. HTH - any further questions don't hesitate to ask! Good luck! X
