Hi Ladies,
Does anyone know if you are entitled to work reduced hours when pregnant here in the UAE?
Someone mentioned something about the normal working day being reduced to 6 hrs.
Before I go and read the UAE labour law, I thought someone on here might know off the top of their heads...

Ok, thanks for the replies ladies. I was aware of the 'nursing' breaks already - but I kinda thought that the reduced working hours during pregnancy were too good to be true...oh well.

Hi - I work in a law firm and can confirm that what is stated below is correct. I have come across one or two businesses who allow their pregnant workers to work shorter hours but this is rare and regarded as a perk. Upon returning to work, most businesses allow "nursing" mothers to combine their two 30 minute breaks and take it off the total of hours they are required to work. Some employers allow mothers to combine the lunch break with the one hour break and leave two hours early. One employer I am aware of prevented the mother from combining her lunch and one our nursing break so she made a complaint to the Ministry of Labour, filed a case and won a judgment in her favour. I am also aware that some employers have a very loose definition of "nursing" and don't necessarily require their employees to be breast feeding to allow them the time off. It's very much up to the employer though and a case won in court cannot be used as a precedent as this is not a common law system.

No. It is however reduced after you return from maternity leave. Reduced by 1 hour for up to 18 months for "nursing mothers".
