My DS had a fungal infection and besides the cream the doctor prescribed the best thing was fresh air. I noticed when we had to go away it came back a bit and took longer to clear up when he didn't have his naked bum time. So now every morning before breakfast he has naked bum time for prevention. We also just use cotton balls and water to clean him unless he has done a #2. I hope it clears up soon for you!
My DD seems to be prone to these type of infections. Dr prescribed 1% Clotrimazole cream (canesten) and not touse wipes, just cotton wool and water. After a couple of days it clears up. The drs also say apply sparingly, but I never do, I always put a decent amount on. I find if I change the wipes I use it flares up so always stick to Pampers sensitive and touch wood we havent had a problem since. Johnsons wipes just burn her they are horrid things!!
Good luck I know how hard it can be and frustrating too. Natural live yoghurt is a great soother for them if you apply it directly to the area
Thanks for the advice. Today I can finally see a huge improvement! Fungus seems to be on the way out. I stopped using 2 of the 3 creams the Dr. gave me and have been using only the antifungal, which seems to have done the trick. Thanks ladies.
With nappy wipes, what I do, is I wash all the soapo out of them and then just use them with water. This way you get the advantage of the soft material they're made out of without the irritating soap in them.
you should get some gauze and just use water to clean the area. my first born was born without a bowel and so had to have a colostomy and so had nappy rash really really bad. we used metanium it worked wonders, its a thick horrible yellow cream but it worked.
My baby boy has never had a problem with nappy rash, not even a mild case. Then it just came from nowhere on his 1st birthday weekend. His front bits (ahem) are the worst affected, blood red with white bits and so inflamed that his little swollen sausage is all twisted & curled up :( It literally went from normal to nightmare in 48 hours, at first I thought it was a reaction to something he ate (tomatoes maybe, as they're quite acidic? or birthday cake?) so watched his diet and the more (zinc based) nappy rash cream I put on, the worse it seemed to get. Took him to the doctor this morning and she diagnosed a fungal infection :( and prescribed some new nappy creams which I've been applying but I haven't seen any improvement yet, now I'm worried that she misdiagnosed it. He seems to have a bit of a red rash around his mouth as well, which has me worried now that it might be something else. And if that wasn't bad enough, now he has a runny tummy as well. I feel so bad for my little boy as it must surely be burning down there. Don't know what to do to help him get better. Advice please...Also my in-laws are arriving for their annual 1-week visit so staying home all week so he can stay without nappy would be difficult. I need a miracle salve. Help!!?!

if you can get hold of metanium thats the best nappy cream in the world. not available here, only uk etc. 1 application if it stays on works.

My son also had a stubborn fungal rash. We had expensive cream from the docs.....didn't do much. I filled up the tub about 4-5inches added a cup of salt and stirred until the salt dissolved. Use as little as possible because it will sting a bit. My son sat in it for about 10 minutes twice a day. It really helped to dry up the rash-- Also, stop using regular baby wipes. I wet a bunch of paper towel with plain water and used those for wipes until the rash cleared up.
Hi ,
My baby had a fungal infection when she was 3 months old. The doc told me to wash her with 3 drops of betadine solution mixed with equal drops of water . And he said to continue using sudocrem.
He also prescribed a herbal ointment , i forgot the name ( sorry ) , but all it was supposed to do was to make a protective layer everytime she dirtied her nappy.. plus ensure the new skin that would come would be resistant.
I did take more than a week for it to completely disappear , but you can try doing this.
1) Wash the baby's genitals with betadine 2-3 times a day ( diluted )
2) Leave without a nappy AS MUCH AS possible . ( i kept her OFF nappy during the nights as well )
3) wipe the baby with washcloth dipped in WATER. DO NOT use any baby wipes.
4) If you have fresh ALOE Vera you can leave it on him for a while. and then wipe off. Its very cooling for the baby as he is in such discomfort.
Hope it helps.

Hi my little boy had very bad nappy rash when we were in the UK, and my paedatrician there told me to use daktarin ( like the stuff for athletes foot) as that treats fungal infections. Hope the little thing feels better soon!
the fact that he has the rash around his mouth as well, suggests a correct diagnosis. Fungal infections go from one end to the other.
Is he getting any relief from the cream the doctor gave you? If not, take him back. I would also suggest some probiotics for him, this is the good bacteria that will strengthen his immune system and enable his body to fight off the fungal infection.
I have also read, but never actually used, coconut oil has anti fungal and anti bacterial effects, so that might be worth a try to give him some relief
