Great advice from kkc...it's all about fit. Poorly fitted underwire bras are not a good idea for anyone, let alone during pregnancy. ;) For those who loathe their non-underwire, nursing bras...there are some great underwire bras available now. eg http://www.bellaforma.com.au/shop/Smoothing-Underwire-Nursing-Bra-pr-17827.html Google and online shopping seems to be the way (IF you know your correct size ;) Check returns policies.)

much to the horror of the midwives I wore an underwired bra throughout my pregnancy as I had big b00bs and a non underwired one was just not good enough. I went through lots of bras because i kept growing and the old ones were pinching me !

Hi Mols, I am a lingerie designer and the issue caused by wires during pregnancy are mostly caused by women wearing the wrong size. In general and non pregnant women your bust generally changes size with every 5 lbs of weight you gain, when pregnant teh changes to your bust can be fast and dramatic, so you need to be remeasured at each stage to make sure you are in the correct size wire. Having a bra without a wire makes this less of an issue and if you have particiualrly tender breasts then the non wired may also be more comfortable for you. If you are wearing the right size bra you should be fine, hoever bare in mind that in the UK 80% of the female population are wearing the wrong size bra, so make sure you go and get measured regularly. Also when feeding again the fluctuation of your bust size is easier to managed with a non wired bra. At the end of the day it is your decision but you shoudl be aware that problems can be caused by wearing teh wrong size wired bra. All the best :-)

I've always used underwired bars even while pregnant.. not so much of an issue. Think none at all. Same here...I've never swtiched bras while pregnant and I've had no issue breastfeeding. BF first for 9 months, and LO now 7 and a half months and still breastfeeding. Enjoy underwired bras whilst you can. I've been in nursing bras for the last 7 and a half months and I HATE IT!!!! Can't wait to burn the things!! edited by SEY83 on 14/02/2012
