I think I did mine about a month before my due date, and even then didn't have a few essentials, which got DH running to the 24h supermarket in the middle of the night! Second time around, bless him, DS hardly got anything new! Personally, I wouldn't stock up on stuff for every eventuality (you're likely to waste a lot of money that way) and play it by ear once bubs is here. I bought bottles, steriliser, etc and never used them. I also never needed a nursing pillow... I guess some women who stock up on all the nursing stuff, then find it doesn't work out for them and switch to bottles. People will give you clothes and toys - it's standard new baby presents, so just buy the minimum. Some people also like to have a Baby List, where friends and family can buy specific items as gifts, so if you choose wisely (and have loads of friends and family) you may not need to buy anything! Don't be too proud to not accept hand-me-downs. They are a godsend really, and with very small babies, will hardly be worn. Buy a souvenir outfit or two (the one you take bubs home in, for example) and a keepsake box. Also, I found I got most mileage out of the 0-3, 6-9 and 12-18 month stuff. We skipped "newborn" size completely with 2 newborns just shy of 4kg! Socks, hats and mittens (unless your baby develops excema) are a waste of time, imo. You should be dressing your baby in either the same or 1 layer more as you do, so unless you're off outside in this weather wrapped in a long-sleeved, long legged outfit with socks, hat and a blanket wrapped round for good measure, then your baby really doesn't need to. There is absolutely no risk of bubs being too cold even when the A/C is set to 20 degrees!

blankets, burp cloths, swing or rocker, moby wrap or baby K'tan, and if your nursing, washable nursing pads, lanolin balm, and most of all, a nursing pillow is a back saver!!! same with those wraps, great for nursing in public and soothing the baby to sleep. as for clothes, baby grows soo fast, i'd say get yourself some hand-me downs for the first month or months, and buy the really must have outfits if you have to. newborns cant have enough comfy pajamas! oohh and socks :) *see what you get for your baby shower then figure out what you need after. fun times!!!

At least order the furniture soon, it took about 6 weeks for us to get our crib etc. Also remember that supplies run out in dubai, so if you see something you want you should buy it right away instead of going back a few weeks later only to be disapointed.
