Gone are the days of balloons and buntings. Today's birthday celebrations call for grand gestures like the cake smash trend. Now, before you dis the idea because of the mess and the food wastage, we’d like to clarify that these smash cakes are small frosted cakes specifically made to be smashed by your one-year-old ninja.

The cake smash trend started in the USA but this insane amount of cuteness couldn't stay limited to one country for long. It's now widely popular all around the world.

The trend involves letting your one-year-tot loose around a frosted cake.

Some parents follow up the photo-session with a post-mess bubble bath making it a double treat.
