I don't really have cravings as such but have been eating a lot more fish recently. Just finding the nausea a little difficult at times and as I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow I think it's about time it went away. This is my first pregnancy so am super excited! I will let you know when I plan to go to one of the meetings. At which hospital are you planning to deliver?

Hi muurtje....yes a bumps and babes coffee sounds great in the new year!!! I never made it along there with my 2 yr old, (we arrived in Dubai when I was 35 weeks pregnant with him!) but know a few mums who met a good circle of friends through those coffee mornings. This being my 3rd pregnancy I will try not to sound like a know-it-all mother!!! Surprisingly this pregnancy feels so different to my other two, I am craving completely different things....weird, I just presumed I would crave similar things! Tonight it was chicken noodle soup ?!!!

Hi redrobin, I'd love to meet up. Was thinking of going to one of the bumps and babes coffee mornings in the new year. Maybe we can meet there?

Hi ladies, I just found this thread whilst stalking expat woman :-) I am due with my 3rd on May 23rd....I have a girl age 4.5 and boy just turned 2. Had my 16 week scan last week and doc said immediately she could see what it was - but I want to have a surprise for a while longer I think!! I know this is a long way off but would be nice to meet up with other may-due mums at some point, its so important to have a good network of new mums that are going thru the same issues!!! xx

Hello fellow May-Baby ladies, Hope you are all doing well! I am still nauseous and almost 17 weeks so was hoping it would have passed by now. Otherwise I can't complain. My Mum is flying in this week and really looking forward to it. Have another appointment with Dr. next week. Curious to see if any of you have found out the gender of your babies yet? I am so curious but will be delighted either way.

Hi all I too have been a bit of a lurker on this site since I moved to the big sandpit 2 years ago. Thought it was about time I said hello! I am due on the 15 May. This is my first and we are having a little baby boy! I am seeing Dr Jozsa who delivers at City - he seems really nice so far. Glad all of the horrible first trimester symptoms have pretty much gone - although seem to have been replaced with headaches and dizziness :-( Hope everyone is doing well!! x

Hi Ladies! Thanks Lexi! I went to the City and was really happy with the hospital and felt comfortable with Dr Anne so I think I will stick with it, however I've been thinking that I should perhaps open a file with the Corniche hospital in case of an emergency or if I don't think Im going to make it to Dubai on time.... I'll have this baby somewhere yet :/ We also got to see bubba who decided to put on a show & do a complete somersault for us... very cute! Im having problems getting anything over my waistline!! So far everything still fits around the thighs & bum (not for long Im sure) but I cant get anything buttoned so Ive had to buy my first pair of maternity jeans - other than that Ive been living in leggings and maxi dresses but will hopefully pick some stuff up when I get home to the UK also in a couple of weeks. Are any of you ladies going to or planning to go to any pre-natal exercise classes? Im thinking of joining something when I get back in Jan if for no other reason to hopefully meet up with some other mums to be and maybe even manage to keep the extra weight under control... especially after the silly season :) Anyway I hope u & ur bumps are all keeping well x

Hi Ladies Irishgal have you tried the Corniche hospital in AD? My friend had all 3 of her babies there and said the midwives and hospital care was fantastic. Will try to find out who her doctor was. Muurtje i can totally sympathise with you, thought i'd gotten over the sickness but still having the odd moment where I feel quite queasy and still having bad headaches almost daily. Checked blood pressure today at work just to make sure it wasn't related to that and thankfully it is on the lower side of normal. Anyone else struggling to fit into normal clothes? First pregnancy I had a tiny bump and didn't really need maternity clothes, however this time I feel huge and clothes are feeling a bit snug. Thankfully going home to UK soon so can pick up some reasonably priced maternity clothes!

Sorry you had to go through the same Philly. I will keep my eye set on 16 weeks and hope that will be the end of it. DH remarked yesterday, that he hadn't ever seen me sleep this much and he figured it must be hard work growing a baby... no sh*t sherlock was my reply :D Irishgal I hope your hospitals tours go well. Yes, my brain seems to be very foggy too. Having a hard time remembering things, names all of it!!

Thanks for responding Muurtje. Im going for the tour of City on Fri and have an appointment booked with Dr Anne Phillip there.. apparently she's quite new which is why I havent seen any recommendations so far so I'll see how I go. I'll also book a tour of American and then decide from there. Good to hear you had a good experience at City Philly. I agree with you.. you hear so many horror stories about the different hospitals that you just get freaked out. I suppose its really up to us to decide what's good for us. What suits someone won't suit someone else! Muurtje - sorry you're still feeling awful.. I had it until around week 13 and I agree it just feels like having a constant hangover...yuk! I really hope it passes soon for you and you can get back to feeling human again!... Although i must say im not sure the forgetfulness passes... im still walking about in a dizzy bubble.. not sure if its pregnancy or old age creeping in ;)

Muurtje - I felt the same way! Wasn't until 16 weeks when I began to feel more normal. Can now function like a normal person.

How are you all feeling? I was hoping that the second trimester would be this wonderful period of feeling great and having heaps of energy... instead I'll be 15 weeks on Thursday and still feel awful. Nauseous, vomiting, tried, agitated, achy, forgetful... ugh! Don't want to complain but was really hoping to feel better by now. Feel like I've been having the world's longest hangover!! I'm in bed by 21.00, nap during the day if I get a chance and just still soooo tired!! Anyway just taking it one day at a time and dreaming of finally meeting our lovely bundle of joy.

Hi all, hope everything's going well. Had the tour of City Hospital last week and met my obstetrician yesterday. Got to say - very happy with both. Felt completely at ease with the professionalism and ability of their staff which was a huge relief! Heard so many horror stories - why do people try to freak you out??? And the midwife who did the tour was really approachable and answered all our silly first-time questions. Was quite good to meet Dr Ibrahim - was a bit wary as had never had a male doctor, but felt completely at ease with him and trusted him 100%. Then I got to see Smurf - was soo cool!! It was incredibly active and kept on scratching its face or smoothing its hair. Has anyone else been feeling tightening over their tummy? My tummy feels all hard and then softens again. Surely too early for Braxton Hicks! Philly

Welcome Irishgal! Can't advise you on hospitals in AD... I've gone with American and am very happy, but I think that both American and City are good hospitals and you'll find people who have had good and bad experiences at both. I would book a tour first and then a Dr. But you could do it the other way as well.

Hi ladies.. ive been lurking for a while & have finally plucked up the courage to join :) Im due at the start of May and am a first timer and with all my family in UK and none of my friends having had babies here I'm a tad bewildered by it all!!! lol... Is there anyone else in Abu Dhabi? Trying to decide on a hospital at the minute.. seem to be limited in AD and am now considering Dubai either City or American... (although knowing my luck Id go into labour on a Thursday evening during rush hour and give birth to my LO on the SZR)..Anyone else in the same boat? Has anyone had any experience or heard anything about Al Noor in AD? Stupid question alert (yep another one)... do you phone the hospital and make an appointment to have a tour and then decide on a doc or is the other way round? Ive been seeing a fab ob/gyn here in AD at Healthplus but unfortunately she doesn't deliver so hence the current (not the first & def not the last) tizzy i'm getting myself into.. Anyway hope you're all doing well and wishing us all happy & healthy pregnancies :)

Lexi, we must have crossed paths today! Am so happy to have found a good Dr as I really didn't like the first one and was starting to get worried. It's my first and I really need to feel that I can trust the Dr in charge. I was home last week and made the most of it. Bought a pram, a maxi cosi car seat plus base, a high chair and a baby carrier. Saved so much money, also helped a long by the VAT. Parents are coming in Dec and bringing car seat and base. DH talking about building a play pen (essential for a Dutch Mum) and possibly a cot and changing table as well. Good thing we have till May ;)

Hi Ladies, had mt NT scan today at 13 weeks and everything looks great! Cant wait for the anomaly scan at 20 weeks to hopefully find out what we are having. In saying that we were unable to find out with DD as she was moving too much and the sonographer couldn't get a good view. Muurtje I am also seeing Dr Braithwaite at AH and she is great, really happy with her. Thankfully my sickness had gone, however have been suffering from headaches for the past weeks. Hoping they pass soon. With regards to prams and strollers etc we have decided to get ours from the UK as they are cheaper and we can claim VAT back. I have my heart set on an Icandy Peach 2 which isn't available here, however they seem to have waiting lists which is a pain! Failing that I will go for the Bugaboo Cameleon.

Hello ladies, finally had my due date confirmed and can now become an official member of the 'May' babies club. Baby will hopefully come around 22May. Had my second scan today. First time seeing Dr Baithwait and I really like her. We were able to see our baby clearly moving around in there! Such an amazing sight! Hapily staring at the little print we were given. Now just waiting for the morning sickness to subside and I'll feel human again :D

Hi everyone, just had 12 week scan at FMC today and was blown away. The baby was so clear and treated us to some womb acrobatics! Dr said she couldn't tell the *** as so much movement! Everything is fine and we are so happy and excited! Due date is the same as predicted May 28. Glad to read about other May mums experiences. This is my first baby and I've only been here a year so don't know many / any other mums! I love reading how you are all doing and the bubs! :D xxx

Hi everyone, It's my post no. 100 :) Congratulations chiara80, what a nice post to read today :) very happy for you. I wish you and all other ladies healthy pregnancy and babies :) Philly, I don't know what do you mean by a consultant meeting? is it one of the routine check-ups? I spent most of my first pregnancy in Switzerland which has a slightly different system when it comes to scans, check-ups and other things. What I learnt from this and from friends who had their babies in the UK is that you have to educate yourself with all the pregnancy issues. Buy some books and read them so when you go to your Dr you'd benefit more from the appointment by asking the right questions and also by knowing what the Dr is talking about. I don't think it is right to expect the dr to offer the information unless you ask and insist to get it out of him/her. Especially here, most drs are very busy seeing tens of preg ladies every day. I read the following two books during my first pregnancy and found them very helpful your pregnancy bible by Dr Anne Deans and the day by day pregnancy book Out of the two, I enjoyed reading every line of the second one. Regarding the pushchair Philly, we bought Mamas and Papas sola/ four wheels. It ticked all the boxes for us, regarding weight, stability, adaptable to the car seat so I can use it if on my own taking a taxi, and it folds to take a smaller place. It was highly praised on "which" magazine. HTH

Hi everyone, how are you all going? Got a quick question. Got my first consultant meeting on the 25th and taking a friend along with me as hubby will be away. Has anyone had one yet? What kind of things do you talk about/questions are good to be asked? Little bit nervous about it all. Also, anyone looking at strollers? Found it a bit overwhelming when I look in the shops or online. Not sure which type is the best to get: the ones with the 3 adjustable levels, or the ones with the carseat/carrycot/stroller bit all in one? Keen to hear any ideas or where to look. Philly

Hello and congratulations to all the May Mums! I am also due in May (30th to be exact!) this is my second baby, I already have a baby girl who just turned 2. It was a complete shock as we did two rounds of IVF to conceive our daughter and the odds of us getting pregnant naturally were so slim. We are overjoyed and a little shocked! I had my first scan really early on due to being a risk of ectopic pregnancy and i was even able to hear a heartbeat. I go back for another visit on Wednesday and can't wait. Looking forward to meeting other May mums!

Hi Philly, that is such great news. I am pleased and excited for you! I have my 12 week booked for 13 November at FMC and I can't wait but I am nervous I feel like my sysptoms have dropped off a bit as I feel great! I think I'm getting too much of an easy ride! I'm 9 weeks and 4 days and the main signs are, I can hardly button my trousers for work, I have to get up at least 3 times nightly to go to the toilet, I am getting tired more easily and need to eat regularly or else I feel sick. That's it though! Today I put myself on the waiting list to see one of thespecialists at City Hospital as that's where I want to be delivered but all they could give me was March. Is it ok to only meet the person who will deliver you 2-3 months before your due?! I don't know how it works here. I'm seeing a gyn at my local clinic for now but need to start thinking longer term as popular docs and hospitals are very busy and booked up way in advance. Would be good to get your views and where you ladies are all going :)

Just had the 12-week scan today. Very exciting! Kept on asking to listen to the heartbeat to make sure it was still there. Strong heartbeat which is def reassuring! Had our first scan at Allied Diagnostics and then this one at Fetal Medicine Clinic. All were very good and explained everything - what we were looking at and what Doc was measuring. At the end of the consultation, Dr said, "Congratulations - you have a healthy, normal baby. Enjoy your pregnancy". I always thought women who said they just wanted a normal baby were giving a standard answer because they didn't want to be disappointed later. But then I find myself doing the same thing... Got a DVD of the scan which was quite cool. Have now found out how to do save stills from the movie of it to email home. Magic 12 seems to be working so far. Hope it continues and everyone keeping well. Philly

Hi Ladies, I'm due on the 27th May. This is my second pregnancy, albeit with quite a large age gap. Have been quite nauseated for weeks now, hoping it passes soon! Have been to American Hospital for my first scan, very reassuring to see a strong heartbeat.

Hi Ladies, Congrats to you both :) Pretty exciting times ahead! Have had the dreaded all-day morning sickness, but coming close to the magic 12 which I have been told is when all the grief stops. Have the 12 week scan coming up on the 22nd - looking forward to that! Would love to catch up and meet you all. School holidays are coming up in another two weeks, so possibly then if that works for you? Talk soon, Philly
