Hi,

I've recently posted a couple of threads as my husband has a firm job offer in Dubai. I have a young son of 5 who is mad keen on swimming. I had sort of assumed that because it is generally hot and sunny in Dubai that most expat accommodation would have access to a shared swimming pool.

Is that correct?

I would also say pretty much 99% of apartments have access to a swimming pool, having lived in 8 different apartemtn buildings ALL of them had access to a pool. But like the ladies said, just check it does and if it doesn't .... Next

Hi The Villa in Dubailand, I think most of the villas have their own pool, we do. It's not heated, so unsuable at the moment for my 7mth old son. I believe there are no community pools in The Villa Hope this helps

If you live in 'new dubai' you will have access to pools. If you live in older neighborhoods you wont but there are plenty of health clubs and five star hotels with pools everywhere that you can go to and just pay a day pass fee. Compounds usually have shared pools that is packed with swim lessons on weekends. Lol! Dont worry. You will get a pool somehow somewhere. Otherwise just take him to the beach for a swim.

Hi most expat apts and compound villas have access to pools, but some older villas (e.g. in Jumeira) don't. Tbh you shouldn't have any problems finding accommodation with pool access.

we have a pool in our building but it's of no use to us as its so cold, building management state that the temp is set by the municipality and won't increase the temperature, dd shakes her head no whenever we walk past it!

Tell us where you fancy living and we'll tell you if there's a pool. If you have a good housing budget, you could have a pool in your villa. If your budget is smaller, there are community pools. All communities at Arabian Ranches have pools, and they are also all heated, so we can use them all year around. Alma, for instance, is a lovely community for families, they meet at the pool or park and often party and BBQ together whilst the children play. A lot of compounds are like that. Also try Arenco, they own lots of family friendly compounds.

It depends where you choose to live but most places have access to a pool either your own or, if you choose to live on a community that has communal pools then - yes....but..... those people living on The Palm will tell you that their rights to a pool have been taken away if their landlord has not paid certain fees..... and some of the newer developments have not got their pools open yet so..... be careful...

I don't know - bit of a "how long's a poice of string" question,,if you want a pool then it will be easy to find somewhere either with its own or access to a shared.. it's quite late here now - you will get more answers in the morning :) edited by PennyLane on 23/11/2012
