Hello Am reviving an old post and looking for some updated opinions about living in motor city. What are the pros and cons for a young (ish) couple who work and have a little one. I'm also keen ...
Motor City is just amazing. I was skeptical at the start moving to MC but just decided to take the plunge. With the summers you can't survive the heat and the DEWA bill. Definitely Emicool is brought an easy solution with the district cooling system in place. Moreover DEWA is not a total loads provider like Emicool. Just log onto their website and you can enquire their charges. Its worth it.

Hi Tweet, in my building theres few of 3 bed facing gardens still avliable ( eg. no one moved in yet). I myself have a 'road view', no noise that annoys us, windows are pretty good-block any noise, only once heard autodrome when they had racing on, didnt bother us at all. Good luck and let me know if you move in. Really? I hope they are not available as about five different agents all told me the same thing i.e. that they were booked up even though people hadn't moved in yet. Glad you like it anyway, makes me feel happier and at ease :)

Ok, am starting to feel a bit more positive about MC as a place to live now :) Thanks all for the feedback. Looks like we are taking the plunge. I called emicool and they told me the base charge for the 3 bed plus maids apartment in question would be 518dhs per month then you have consumption ontop of this. TBH we are pretty good at switching the ac off and on only as we need it and never leave it running while we are away during the day etc. I'd also consider getting the thermostats changed to the ones where the aircon cuts out when it reaches a certain temp. Good to know about the maintenance crew. Sounds a familiar story, shoddy workmanship seems par for the course everywhere (that I've lived so far in Dubai that is). I know deep down of course I'll still see my friends, just have to make the effort to get in the car and drive places. I'd have to do this in the UK anyway so don't know why I'm making a fuss about it really! All the garden facing 3 beds have gone (in the new block that's recently been released) so the view is back over dubai (and emirates rd) towards the burj al arab. Can also see the ranches and the golf course. I guess that's not so bad really and its quite impressive in its own right but I would prefer to be overlooking the green communal areas but we can make the most of the lovely communal areas on the weekends :) Hope we have done the right thing by our dd, as long as she's happy, we are happy at the end of the day :)

I've lived here for 2 years now. I love the space and community feel to it. I live in Shakespare Circus II which is opposite AR so I don't hear the noise from the Autodrome. Good for families. We were the first tenants in our apartment. In a three bed. Emicool in the summer is around the high 900AED and on top of that there is DEWA which is around 850AEd per month but that includes housing fee. The only problem I think that I can complain about whilst Serve U are quick in coming to fix your problems i do not think that their workmanship is very good. In our second bathroom I've had a leak in their for the majority of the time I have live in the apartment. Every week Serve U sends someone to have a look at the leak its fixed for a week and then starts leaking again.

Tweet, to be honest, apartaments are going quick( they just started letting out apartaments in building next to ours and people are moving in fast, as well as these bulding are new so people prefer brand new apartament) I do not drive, but dont feel isoleted at all ( as opposed to living in the ranches before), taxi trip to mall of emirates is only 15 min and Mirdif cc just 20 min, beach 20 min, besides plenty of cafes and shops,a walk away. You can keep in touch with your old friends and always make new:) Good luck in making decision.

I lived there for two years and REALLY miss it now we've moved away. Apartments were great as were appliances - had no issues in two years. It's fab having the big Spinneys nearby, and the little mini one to pop into if you just need a few things. The common areas are kept clean and tidy, including gardens and pools. There are pedestrian pathways running throughout Motor City which was something I loved about it. So many kids played out safely away from the roads, and it also means you can get an apartment facing gardens with no roads underneath so it's nice and quiet. We moved away to try and escape the big bills, but to be honest our DEWA has now gone up and we're paying more in our new place than Emicool + DEWA in Motor City. Race track - we lived a couple of rows away from it, but never heard any cars unless our doors were open. The doors are double glazed so drowned out the noise very well. We were never disturbed by it. We now have single glazing and can hear every word spoken, every car rev outside - it's driving me bonkers (in JVT). Really miss double glazing!

Interested to see all the comments about Motor City. It looks like it may fit our citeria. We may need somewhere 95k a year max. We have two kids (will be going DESS and DESC) and imperative that there is somewhere they can ride bikes and that I can run etc. Any more advice/opinions would be great. Are there apartment blocks that are 'better' than others?

Thanks ladies for taking the time to reply. Apr04, sounds like you've moved into the same building and apartment size as we are thinking about. All happening very fast and in such a quandary abut what to do. Space wise we just won't get that here in the marina or the palm for anywhere like the price at motor city, indeed we'd only be able to afford another two bed most likely if we stay where we are. Worried I will feel isolated as all my friends are in town. I'm hardly out partying every night these days with a little one but it's nice to pop round to a friends for dinner or go to the mall for a last minute movie etc. my husband will be happy anywhere, literally. Trying to think realistically in that we don't want to be in Dubai forever and maybe now is the time to batan down the hatches and save money so we can leave here quicker with hopefully a few pennies in the back pocket. If we stay in the marina or the palm we will be close to all our friends, the beach, bites to eat, nightlife etc but less likely to save money. Also, I hate hate hate emirates rd but I'll have to drive this everyday to work (difc) I think!! But all that space, it's just amazing! Wish I could wave a wand and have the right decision made. Also the agents are pushing like crazy saying these apartments are going like hotcakes and nowhere else in MC has their size, again, do we risk waiting a month until our lease here ends or sign now and loose out on the month we are already paid up here..'sigh' Any feedback on the autodrome noise? It's a given there will be races on, I just have no idea how often.

We just moved to MC two days ago, so far everything run smooth apart from AC, it just not cold enough. Spoke to Emicool, they sent somebody to check and told us that apparently in our building there is only one pump who does the work, the other two is broken so some apt didnt get proper cooling system....finger crossed Serve U will solve this issue

Hello Am reviving an old post and looking for some updated opinions about living in motor city. What are the pros and cons for a young (ish) couple who work and have a little one. I'm also keen to understand what we could expect our ac and dewa bills to be each month for a 3 bed apartment. We will be out all day at work. Many thanks for any info you have. All info will help us decide where on earth we are going to be moving to soon! edited by tweet on 26/06/2012 I live there 3.5 years now and just love it in MotorCity. It's amzing there but beware of the cooling bill as it is very high with the district cooling in summers and a big part of the costs is not your consumption but a loading charge that is based on the space of your apartment. ask Emicool how m uch that will be for your space in summer/winter before you sign. DEWA is very little as cooling is with the other provider.

Hi Tweet we moved to Motor City from the Ranches 4 months ago and loving it. We have got 3 bed plus maids in new building recently opened, no major issues so far ( if any, maintenance is ready on hand and respond very quickly). As for ac, its provided by emicool, now its hot and we use it more( im at home with 2 kids so its on constantly) bills are about 800-1000dhs a month with chilled water charges included. The company providing care of the area changed to Serve U, there is more security men about, garedns are kept realy nice, its clean. basically we like living here, walking distance from shops( spinnys, cafes, restaurant, medical clinic, etc) easy acces to all major roads. if you have any more questions, shoot. HTH
