Hi,

Sorry, I'm sure this has been done before, but did a search and couldn't find anything. Would really appreciate suggestions for groups/activities for a 9mth old to socialise. I think I'd prefer a structured activity rather than a coffee morning as such...but I haven't done coffee mornings so maybe I'm wrong - if there are any nice ones then suggestions would also be great. I saw the post re simming classes so that's a great start!

Thanks

When my DS & DD were little I took them to the expatwoman coffee mornings but they were in play areas not a cafe. They were great - met two of my best yummy mummy friends at one :)

I have been taking my LO's to TOPTOTS for years now. Both my kids have loved it as have I. I've made some of my best friends there and in my opinion it's by far the most comprehensive mother-child program out there. They work on all areas of development and they have a lovely garden for the kids too. I can't recommend TOPTOTS highly enough. They're located in Umm Suquim at Health Bay Polyclinic. The lady who runs it is great - you can email her on [email protected] Good luck!

EM - I know what it's like! I have been wondering the same as I also have an 9 month old who needs a little more entertaining then being at home with me all day, and I would prefer activities to coffee mornings any day! I am in Victory Heights which is not too far from you -I'm not long in Dubai but I have found Boogie Babies at the marina mall (music and movement, I popped in for a look and it seems lovely) - haven't started this yet but plan to do so in the next week or so when I get my car. The marina mall is quite easy to get to from where you live and is also a really nice, easy mall for a wander/shop/coffee. Also, there is waterbabies at the polo club in Arabian Ranches, which I figure would be good to get the my LO ready for all the swimming she will be doing while here!

Just stopped by the Al Areesh club and found the name of the classes, both of which are organised by Active UAE (google their web site). Kiddly Winks is a music and movement class for children of all ages, it says on their flyer. Call 050 5597055 for info. They also do Water Babies. Both are bookable in advance, and are held here at Al Badia in the Al Areesh club. Also do you get time out dubai kids magazine? Monthly mag, costs 5dhs and has extensive listings of all kinds, thoroughly invaluable!

Hi Brown eyed girl, My nephew will be here on holiday for a month soon. He is 3.5 years old. Would Jebel Ali Play group be suitable for him or is it mainly younger kids. Also do we just go along or do you need to register or something first. Which church is it in? Thanks

Jebel Ali Church Playgroup is really nice. It runs from 09.30 - 11.30 on Sun, Mon & Tue mornings. There are loads of lovely toys and Mums and for 15 AED you even get a coffee! Let me know if you need further info or directions.

Hi there My son is 4 yrs old and so he is just a wee bit old for some of the classes, so I can't tell you about them from personal experience (plus we are pretty new to Dubai!) but I see advertised at the club house here at Al Areesh club in Al Badia (near Festival City mall) they do Kindermusic and Boogie Babies, and swimming classes for tiny ones. There is also the mirdif mums playgroup who meet weekly, on wednesdays - they have their own web site if interested. Expat Woman organise a meet up at Mirdif City Centre every Tuesday morning at Play Nation (inside the mall) from 10am. Again they have own web site. Mirdif Mums also on FB. Have a check on Dubai kidz Biz (do a google) as there are events and activities advertised on there all the time. Hope that helps a bit x

The lakes club has baby splash boogie babies. I have done both with my children when they were smaller and they loved it. Just pop into the lakes club and ask. I think also there is kinder music and dubai ladies club.

Thanks Clare - I'm at Greens but I don't mind travelling as everything seems to be more or less 10-15 minutes away from there. She would love a swimming or water group. She's not going to nursery so I'm looking for a daily activity as a substitute (and the day runs much more smoothly when she's busy!) - a music group would be great. I'm early 30s and would be nice to meet mums of a similar age too. It has been really difficult to find groups as the information is often very out-dated so really appreciate advice.

whereabouts are you located? There are several groups and classes that might be of interest to you in the Mirdiff and Festival City areas but this might be the opposite end of town from where you are. Are you keen on a music group, or swimming/water baby type class, or a playgroup/mums and babies meet-ups? Never too early to introduce these nice things to your baby, and good for you to have some social contact with other mums, too :-)
