Dear All,

I visit Dr. Tayzeen Faisal for my first appointment when i found out that i am pregnant. Loved her ! and didnt ven think about going to someone else ! but now just found out that the clinics she sits in (Motorcity and Medgate, Jumeirah rd) are not covered in our insurance......Dh's HR is soooooo lazy and unreliable (i know as have experienced in the past) that re-imbersment is not an option !

So no use crying over the spilt milk....now i have taken appointments with doctors who are covered under our insurance, which are :

Dr. Nirmala Raghunathan - Emaar Clinic, Dubai Mall.

Dr. Luthra and Dr. Shiva at Medcare Hosp.

If you had visited any of these doctors, which one would u recommend and why ?

I am looking for someone who listens, has excellent bed side manners and does not judge me when i tell her that i had been drinking and smoking before i knew i was pregnant...as it might kick start our relationship on the wrong foot...

TIA

I would recommend Dr Janaki at Welcare if your insurance covers it.She won't smother you with love and affection, but she explains everything very clearly and has answers to all your questions. One of the main reasons I like her is because she is very practical, and clearly very skilled. I changed from Dr. Amala as well. Too much meds. Wanted me to take Duphaton straight off, with no indication that it was required. Then wanted me to take Glucophage to 'correct any possible hormone surges' and gave me 10mg of Folic acid (as against 400microgram recommended as my new doctor told me, apparently such large does, while not harmful, are unnecssary unless you epilepsy etc). Maybe some people like the cautious, lets make sure nothing goes wrong approach. It was not for me though. If your insurance covers it (which most do these days) try City. 2 of the doctors there come highly recommended Dr. Elsa and Dr. Yuliya. Appoitments take a while, the latter being a bit easier to get an appt with. Good luck.

Dr Amala...nope from me. Didn't diagnose my fertility problem correctly, took bloods for my hormone levels on the entirely wrong days of my cycle said 2 gynaes after her. Wanted to jump straight onto medication before doing any tests.....which I let her stupidly! :(

I'm having my third baby and am seeing Dr Luthra, although she is not cuddly, she always apologises if she is late and has always answered all my questions, without making me feel like an idiot. Our third baby was not planned and when I went in it was a bit of a shock to be told that I was expecting again. I was crying and a bit of a mess and thought that she handled the situation very well, and comforted me the best she could as a complete stranger. I have to say that I was quite nervous about seeing her as I read on here that people were not happy with her. However after reading old post etc realised that she hadn't put anyone in danger and because friends of mine had had such good experiences with her I thought I'd go and see her anyway. I'm really happy with her so far, I don't find her abrupt or rude and the more I see her the friendlier she is each time. Each persons experience is different, and without meeting her I think it's unfair to strike her off your list.

Dr Nirmala does deliveries at Medcare and City hospital. I would go with City if i had to do it over. Your insurance may be broken up differently to ours, we just had a set amount for maternity ect. So not to sure about your situation. Xx

Thank You both.... Have an appointment with Dr. Nirmala in the coming week, will see how it goes......Thank you for letting me know that atleast she is FRIENDLY !!! As for Dr. Shiva and Dr. Luthra, I have appointments with them the week after, so i suppose if i am satisfied with Dr. Nirmala, hopefully i can give them a miss...... As this is a first baby for us therefore, finding a friendly and caring doctor is very important to me ( not that it becomes least imp. if you are having your 2nd or 3rd), as i dont know anything, everything happening to me is new, dont have family to comfort me etc etc......Yes, internet has been providing me with a lot of info. but i suppose it cannot replace the comfort provided by a good doc. Leshell, thank you for letting me know abt the insurance issue, i called them and they said, i have a yearly aggregate cover of 600,000 Aed, that is everything, i.e. maternity, dental, hospital etc.........makes sense ?? or is it a too high of an amount ??? Sant, if i need to see another doctor after Dr. Nirmala, I will see Dr. Wafa instead of Luthra / Shiva.... Anyone knows, where does Nirmala does deliveries ?? Thanks !!!

Hi there, i actually have been to Dr Nirmala at the start of my pregnancy and then ended up with Dr Shiva at the end. Dr Nirmala was lovely, but short. Like if she can say something in three words she wont try and stretch it to 10, if you know what i mean. She was very thorough however didnt explain a whole lot. For example, in the scans she would be going hrm ok and this is this, and we were like well what does that mean? Then she would explain. Dr Shiva is good, very rushed and quickly get you in and out but has alot of knowledge. I had some complications, which i thought she responded to quite well but she dosnt really have fabulous bedside manner. Also i found we only got covered 18,000 for our maternity and used over 5000aed in the first trimester by having a few extra appointments. So just check that with your insurance. Overall they had there strengths and weaknesses. I would have probably stayed with Dr Nirmala if i had to choose, quiet but still friendly and i never felt rushed with her. Best of luck with your decision.
