... i am curious. obviously dont want your personal details because that is none of my business, but what brought you to this point? i mean, literally. did your gynae get to a point where she/he said "ok, right, let's call in the big guns" or did you just make that decision after years of trying and getting nowhere?

i have always promised myself that i wont be subjected to all kinds of tests but after a string of miscarriages i am about to eat my words. still not sure though & havent started any kind of treatment ... yet.

i dont have PCOS, no infections, no hormonal problems ... but will ask dr about autoimmune and chromosomal issues. we've had all the blood tests under the sun and last week i asked her if there's anything more we can do & all she said was when i'm ready to try again, we should start with the aspirin / injections PRIOR to falling pregnant. she's also referred me to someone i can talk to because although i'm usually a strong person, these miscarriages have knocked me for a six. i really do need coping mechanisms before i try again. thank you ladies, you have been so helpful. i'll keep you posted.

Dikane, I am very sad to hear this. But look Cheggers is right there are could be all host of other problems, and I agree with her at least you are getting pregnant. Dont give up! Perhaps you could speak to the doctors about running some of test for the things she has mentioned. Wishing you all the best.

HI Dikane Sorry for your losses, I know what you are going through :-( Are you happy your doc is thoroughly testing you for everything that could be causing your miscarriages before you go down the IVF etc route? Have they ruled out PCOS, autoimmune disorders, infections, hormone problems, chromosomal issues? My belief is that there is always a reason you miscarry and it helps me to know what it is so I can do my darnest to prevent it again. Think positive - at least you can get pregnant. That is a big deal. If you want to chat further, leave your email and i will get back. x

thanks ivfuae. i've been on duphaston, baby aspirine, blood thinning injections twice daily (ouch!) and still miscarried. i know it's nature's way of dealing with the weak, but it's still heart-wrenching. thanks for posting

dikane, Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I just wanted to share something, my friend she also had many miscarriages, she was finally refer to a miscarriage specialist back in UK. He told her to back to see him when she next gets pregnant (early stages), he then prescribed baby aspirin and a drug called predinslone to take until she was over 3 months. Anyway it did the job for her. Her doctor basically told her most miscarriage (specially early stages) happens due to the quality of embryos. If the body feels the embryo will not grow into healthy baby it gets rejected. Secondly it could be due to immune factors, your immune systems attacks the healthy embryo thinking its a foreign. Baby aspirin helps thin out blood, so the flow is better and predinslone (used on organ transplant patients), to slow down your immune system for a short period until pregnancy establishes. Perhaps you can ask your OB/GYN about this. All the best. Oh sorry forgot to mention, before her cycle, doc gave her injection to clear up her uterus, though he himself said scans showed a healthy and normal uterus. edited by ivfuae on 23/01/2011 <em>edited by ivfuae on 23/01/2011</em>

Oh, damn :( Anyway toanswer your question, even though I didn't have to undergo fertility treatments ... I can tell you what made my sis in law do it. They had been trying for about 3 years and the docs confirmed that both she and her husband had issues...so natural conception would be impossible without a miracle. They finally tried everything, the last attempt being IVF but it still hasn't happenned for them. They have just applied for adoption. My own sister also did IUI but it didn't work for a while. Mainly because the doctors couldn't identify a specific problem with her, which in some cases is worse. But one of her students' moms came to her one day and totally brainwashed and convinced her to visit this guy in the outskirts o the town they live in. My brother in law agreed to take her there after much convincing and many tears because he thinks they are quacks. The first time, this guy pressed a bone at the back of her back... just where the spine begins and told her what he though was the problem. Gave her a massage and asked her to be back after a certain number of days of her menses cycle. The next time she went, he did a massage again and told her she probably wouldn't need to come back. Sure enough, she was pregnant in the next cycle. While she was continuing with some kind of medical fertility treatment also at the time this happenned, so it could be that that finally worked...but in my sister's head, she still believes its because of the 'quack'. :) I think at the end, just go with your heart. thing is, i dont seem to have a fertility problem. it's keeping the babies that's my problem. and that's what is so frustrating because no one can tell me why. :( hence my question, should i go "over my gynae's head" to a fertility specialist to try and get to the root of the problem? miscarriages come from your body's ability not they quality of your eggs/sperm, right?

There was a thread earlier on here where a lady spoke very highly about a self fertility massage that apparently worked for her and a few others she had recommended it to. Maybe you wanna do a search and take a look at it?

Hi dikane Sorry to hear about your miscarriages ;0( I'm doing IVF at the moment. For me it was the gynae's call but one we were pushing for. It was a case of trying for ages with only a miscarriage to show for it, my having endometriosis and (big factor) my age as I'm 40 later this year. Whatever you decide, good luck.
