I usually wear 2 layers of clothing... so when i needed to bf, i would pull the lower top neck line down and life the upper top up. That way only the nipple was out (covered by baby) and the rest of me was covered. Sometimes you cant find a coffee shop and baby is bawling, so just sit anywhere and put the buggy in front of you. I've sat in the central area of MOE and BFed without problems. Dont worry too much.. u'll be a pro with a few feeds! That's exactly how I used to do it - absolutely no flesh on show at all. I have never, and would never feed in a loo, but coffee shops and the occasional shop changing room are always to hand. I've also fed in parks here and on a bus back in the UK! I also apply the same rules for feeding my children as I do for myself... I don't hide under a blanket to eat, and FF babies don't either, so why should bf babies? i hide under a blanket to eat so my DH cant see im stuffing my face with cupcakes! well, ok... that's a worthy cause, if ever I saw one! ;) lol

I use one of the bf-ing covers and I find it really convenient and comfortable. I find it's also great when LO starts to get distracted by all and everything going on around and is constantly popping on and off the breast! The one I use has an open neck and ties around my neck so it won't slip off and I can see bub... Makes me happy to feed everywhere - esp when you can find a discrete place.

I am using one of the covers with my second baby and I love it. I never felt comfortable bfing in public with my first even though I was always careful never to show anything unnecessary. It stopped me from feeding him for longer. It might look more obvious but it is fairly clear if you are breast feeding with or without it. My main problem is not having a breast accidently on show but more exposing my wobbly midriff. I can't cope with wearing two layers - I'd melt at the moment what with hormones and all! <em>edited by Pancake on 02/02/2011</em>

My husband freaks out about this, but I figure that all of us were babies once, no matter what religion, culture, country we are from. I refuse to feed a baby in toilets or change rooms - such a germophobe, I hate changing nappies in the change room! Yeah, just do it subtly and use the strategies other have suggested. I breastfed leaning over the carseat on the Oman -UAE highway as we couldn't pull over safely - I think there is still a very traumatised Pakistani truck driver walking around in a daze somewhere......

My Breastfeeding shawl is more like a poncho! So it looks like a normal top that i just drape over me! It takes a few times getting confident b'fing in public, but once you get the hang of it, you will be fine!

I was happily feeding in public until I received some odd looks from other women feeding using those blanket things to cover themselves up - I thought they looked more obvious whereas I just look like the baby is on my lap I think those blankets look far more obvious too. I was always discreet, but only flicked a muslin over me at beginning and end when there was a chance of a bit of flesh on show (to someone who was lookign really hard!) You're not going to be fined at all. The UAE promotes breastfeeding.

Ive done it loads. The way I look at it, we don't eat in stinky bathrooms, so why should our babies? And even this mother and baby rooms...they stink from all the dirty nappies. I always chose somewhere discreat. Coffee shops with high side bucket style chairs are great. I rearange things to face the most quiet side, put buggy at my side and hae a blanket/pashmina/muslin over my shoulder. I agree that those proper bf covers draw more attention and therefore I didn't bother with one. I am a lot more confident with DS 2 then I was with DS 1. So just try relax, take some time to practice...and you'll be fine. I was most worried with how locals would react. Not sure why I worried as they are always giving me smiles and nods of aproval. It's the Filipino staff at malls that seem to be concerned more then anyone else around. <em>edited by KellsBells on 02/02/2011</em>
