I worked for EK as cabin crew a few years ago. When I had my interview, we were told to wait six weeks to find out if we'd been successful. Eight weeks later I hadn't heard so I called them. I'd got the job, but they'd forgotten to tell me. That might give you some kind of idea! :D

Are any of you familiar with how the recruitment process works with Emirates? The position I applied for had a closing date of last week, so I was expecting to hear back from them after that, but on checking today I've just discovered its now closing on 9th April!!! Does this mean they didnt like any of the candidates and have decided to look for more.....or will they leave us (me!) waiting until the new closing date to get more applicants for final interview??? Any way of me finding out? (I'm not great at playing the waiting game, as you can see!!!!) First time applying for a job overseas....extremely nerve-wracking!!!!! :-)

Do you know what grade the job is being advertised at as that will better determine your 'extras'. Pay varies within each grade and depending on your experience / nationality etc then you may get more, but accomodation / transport allowance etc goes by grade. If you want something with a garden (i.e. a villa) then you may well have to put quite a bit to. If they offer you accomodation instead of an allowance, be very careful as you won't get a villa unless you are married with children and don't forget, might not be a good idea to mention your other half as it is illegal to live together unless you are married (although as we know lots do, but don't be swan up saying you need a villa as you have a partner and a dog... lol! ;) ).

Do check what accommodation they provide, I know someone who joined them recently who was very disappointed - I think only families with kids get villas with gardens!

Just to give a balanced view on this as it seems people are quite quick to come on and complain about Emirates (seems sad that they will put up with such an 'unbearable' situation rather than find a better opportunity, but each to their own...) I work for the Emirates Group and I love it. I work with great people, the work is challenging and the perks are good. I am not badly paid and I am not badly treated. My advice to you Suzimack is to assess the opportunity and decide for yourself whether it suits you. Since you have not mentioned what grade the job you are going for is, it's hard to predict what your salary and perks will be. And you always have the option of negotiating - each grade has a range of 'bands' and you can get quite different salary offers within the same grade. It's always good to arm yourself with all sides of the story but please don't be put off simply because of some of the negativity you've seen here. Explore it for yourself and I wish you the very best of luck! Hiya notthatbad, knew you'd be back again as soon as I typed, lol, nice to see you! Glad you still enjoy working at EK, but if I remember correctly you don't work in EG-IT. Each dept is different and I (as I have always stressed) was giving just my humble opinion and experience of that particular dept as the OP requested. EG-IT is a very different beast to just about any other dept. I am sure the OP would not make a decision simply based on strangers' opinions on a forum, however, the points I have raised are the truth, whether you like it or not regarding that particular department! Thanks to both of you for sharing your views. I'm keen to hear what everyone has to say, I'm well aware there will be conflicting views of any organisation (many of those in my current department have similar views, but are also happy to remain for whatever reason!) I'm pretty confident there is a potential for negotiation re the package offered, just wanted to see if I could get an idea 'up front' of what they may be likely to try and offer me (I already have figures in mind for what I'd be asking them!!!) I think the job will also involve some overseas travel, so I'd be looking for recognition/compensation for that (being away from home etc) What are the other elements of the package like? What assistance do you get with relocation? What is the accommodation/transport allowance like? I'll be bringing my OH with me (he hopes to be able to get a job himself, but probably not until we are already here) so I have to make sure we arent going to suffer financially, even short-term! Also have a dog, so a nice wee garden somewhere is a must!!!! :-)

" Since most, if not all processes in an organization are computerized, IT services are expected to be up 24 x 7, only downtime windows are late nights / weekends / holidays - which means the situation described is pretty much the same be it in an IT department of a Bank or any medium to large-sized private / public sector organization or for that fact if you are working in the IT supplier organizations in sales / support roles - so EG-IT doesnot sound much different, cant comment on the politics though!

Salary could be in the range of 17-18k AEd per month plus airline perks which you already are aware of working for an airline. so roughly calculated at 1 GBP = 6 AED. If you are single; no kids or pets then this should be good enuf for a nice living here.... Thats pretty poor, far below what I would be willing to accept...especially as I'm not single! Oh dear, not so promising then!!

Already had a telephone chat about my experience etc. Having read a few threads on here about Emirates I'm now a bit concerned that my expectations for the job, salary, benefits etc may be a bit high!!! (I currently work for another airline, so the staff travel aspect is fine...its the financial side I'm interested in!!!) I currently earn over 30K GBP and would need/expect to see a decent uplift in this to justify moving overseas....am I deluding myself?? Also, expecting a reasonable accommodation/transport package to cover the rental fees I see as standard. Reviews of Emirates as a company to work for seem a bit mixed....whats the general consensus? Any comments/opinions/warnings will be greatly appreciated!!!!
