Plan cheap activities at the weekend such as different parks or beaches. Take pack lunches out with you along with water. Buy and use the entertainer for when you end up in malls. Clothe your famly from aramex shop and ship and stop getting ripped off in Dubai malls. Cancel your showtime and pay 30aed/month for a VPN address and watch TV for free. Do amonthly shop and spend a day or 2 cooking then freeze and defrost as you need. Go to the supermarket when the kids are in bed so you dont have them asking for things.

Pathetic, wasn't it. You'd think after this many years hanging out on Earth, I would have become a tad more inventive ...

No. No, it's not. But it sort of felt like it when I split the bill between two cards ... ;) Love the "logic"

Don't buy a really expensive pair of gorgeous shoes and try to 'hide' it by splitting the cost between your credit card and your debit card. He'll find out anyway. :( That's not really cost saving is it?

1 weekly shop in the supermarket a week and stay away from spinneys on a week day for little things...use the local shops for that....try using different combonations from food you have already purchased...imagintion... its fun and cheaper...and Carefour is more expensive than hyperpanda and local stores... try it... any way...lie down is required

Wuffles, how on earth do you know what seasonal fruit and veg are here? Of course, I buy anything which is grown "locally", but other than that, I have no idea of what is seasonal in the shops here. Are dates seasonal all year round, for example - at home, they were only seasonal at Christmas? Fair point-shall I change that to buy what is on special-and ideally local produce which will be cheaper and fresher I wasn't trying to make a point, I was asking a genuine question :) In Geneva, most foodstuffs were related to the seasons, though out of season berries did come creeping in during the last five years, but I'm absolutely bewildered here, being in the desert on the other side of the world.. I suppose though that what is seasonal in other countries is cheaper to import at that time and so cheaper to buy here-maybe I am explaining myself badly

Never really noticed that we have seasons here, like back in the UK. Like Jersey mids are only available for a month per year, oh how I love them!!!!!!!!!! same as suede!!!

Food wise I think 2 days in advance. We used to have lots of home deliveries, we have cut back on them now, not just due to cost but having the same food becomes so boring. Ive been on the internet to find different foods for us to eat, more healthier options too I think. Last week I made a home made quiche, normally I would hit the drawer where all the menu's are kept and just pick the phone up to place my order. Plans this week to make my home made Tomato and basil soup and tonight doing my OH fav Chilli with rice.

Set out your budget and keep to it. Look for alternative foods, cheaper brands can and do taste the same as the more expensive ones. If I overspend one day I cut back the next. We dont use the MMI or A&E anymore, thats saves use quite abit each month. Havent really been out lately so no spending there either. A friend of mine was quite shocked on what we allow each month for food, eating out, petrol, she spends a quarter to what we do, but it all depends on how many is in the family, everyone is different and so are their needs. yes you are right salsB. one of my friend also saves a lot. she works in Dubai but lives in sharjah. she goes for shopping only twice in a month for groceries. but in my case if I find a recipe, same time I run for shopping & once you are in the mall then you can understand better.....hehehee :D

We don't have a car-just use public transport and the odd taxi-but of course that won't work for everyone. Hard to give suggestions when we don't know your family situation taxi.. really won't work for me. will be more expensive for me. But buses are cheap if you can use them! Yes wuffles, I am working and want to reach home as soon as possible. I have 3 lovely DDs & I don't want to let them wait so long. I love cooking so I have to prepare Dinner as well. :( Fair enough-you need a car when you have children! Might work out cheaper to make double quantities when you cook and freeze half-could save you going to the supermarket so often and getting tempted by what is on the shelves-will also save you time! Go shopping with a list and stick to it-buy seasonal veggies and fruit to save money

You need to make a clear line between things you need and things you want!!! Budget for upcoming bills first and then see what is left t play with!!! Also put aside some money each pay for a longterm goal such as a trip away

Write down everything you spend money on for a whole month-will show you areas where you can cut down. I also have a budget book the current one goes back about five years so I know what bills are coming up and how much they were in previous years so I have an idea what to put aside

Minimise use of aircon and set temperature a degree or so higher, turn off TVs etc don't leave on standby, plan your menu for the week before you go shopping.
