JS, you are absolutely right, I just have to cope with it until I get another job. I definitely do not want to go and speak to him as I think it will show that i feel guilty for any reason. I also think that he is waiting for me to come knowing my nature to fight for my rights and my own opinion, and it also shows that he needs me to come and ask as he cannot have enough strength to start the conversation himself. He is just so small going behind my back. I will sit and wait and then we will see.
Any tips how to get a new job, ladies?
I am a PA since 7 years and most of the bosses are moody!! I would definitely be very upset if my boss asks the receptionist to arrange his trip and maybe he is trying to eliminate you or I would say "Make you feel that he doesn't need your help" then this would make you feel upset and resign.. Don't do that and just try to live with it until you find another job.. Or go and speak politely to him and see why he is treating you like this.. Maybe he is upset from you because you were on sick leave while he needed you to be in the office for urgent/ important work.. I don't know how to put it in words but bosses are so selfish and they don't simply care if you sick.. getting the work done is what is important..
And Kid Vs Kat is right, if you have a car loan or personal loan and you get fired then the company might inform your bank and your account will be frozen (mainly all your money will be taken for the loan)..
Another EA here..in my experience in Dubai unless you are nearly dying (in hospital) I find bosses here don't take to it too kindly if their assistant gets sick! Everyone else can be sick but us:( I would try not to take his attitude too personally, continue doing your work and don't let him see he has got to you.
@JoannaS: Sorry you went through something like it. It was awful. But I am so much happier and realized that work was just ONE aspect of my existence. Hopefully will find something better!

Hi Ginger, aside from the office politics, secure your financial position now. Drain all but expected payments (car loan, outstanding cheques etc) from your bank account. If you are let go, he may inform your bank and you don't need your account frozen when that happens. Hang in there;)
Eva, so you may know well what I mean. What would you think if he asks a receptionist to arrange his next trip ???

No Eva, once I was back, he tried to find if I made any mistakes (he failed), then (I think) he tried to check if my sick leave certificate was fake, and that's it, if he needs anything he would have asked me, now i think he is trying to find a way to fire me, so my question is "can he do so without a termination notice and without a valid reason, the answer is probably 'no' , but it is not that easy emotionally.

Hi Ginger. I just told you what I did. I had the same problem as you where stuff was being delegated under my nose and I had NO support from senior managment. It just got too much for me at the end of the day. I did try and talk to him about this but he just kept on lying about everything. I complained to HR and his boss and they did nothing so I left. To me that was better than being set up as a bad performer which was his agenda (funnily, I was one of the best performers before he took over as my boss). My case is different, I am not at all likening it to your situation.
If your benefits are better if fired, then please follow the advice these ladies have given you.
All I can say is dont let it destroy your confidence. I know that my shoulders were slumped at work for a long time.
kcinthecity - I am so sorry to hear about your story! It sounds exactly like mine ;( It can be a huge knock on your confidence. It was devastating for me.

JS, thanks for your advise, I don't think to resign unless I have a better proposition. To go & speak to him - maybe he is just waiting for me to come and ask ... I really don't know, it is now since 2nd week I am back from my leave and he almost doesn't address a word to me, while I am an EA and have been in touch with him 100 times a day.
Ginger7,
I would follow advise of Eva and ask him politely (at first). Weight your options and bear in mind that if you resign your end of service benefits will be affected (+ban issue depending on where you work / and or who will be your next employer).
Start gathering all evidence (in writing).
The legal proceedings in Labour Court take forever. Oh, the Court cannot order your employer to reinstate you.
Good luck!
Hi Ginger,
I would just go and talk to him politely. That you notice that your responsibilities have been delegated and that, now that you are back from leave, you can take over again.
Whenever I had something at work I went to talk (stay at the topic 'work' not 'feelings') and it always worked out for me. Might just work for you...
Hi Eva B, that's the point - my responsibilities are being delegated with me present at my desk, not while I was sick, so I am ending up doing nothing, because he "prefers" somebody else doing it. It is very clear from his side, isn't it?
Ginger, do not resign whatsoever, keep going to work and at the same time look for another job. If he fires you, the entitlements you take (end of service) will be more than if you resign.
In addition to that, if he fires you without justifications/ good reasons, you have the right to go and complain to Labour department, the Labour department will then try to settle the issue either by convincing the boss to pay you 3 months notice or to return back to work, if no mutual settlement is reached, the case will go then to Dubai Court (if you are in Dubai) and in MOST cases, the Dubai Court will take YOUR side :)
Just remember, no matter what happens, don’t submit a resignation!
kcinthecity, sorry I have corrected your information :D
Also I agree with Eva, I don't know about your work relationship with your boss, but honesty might work.. though it is different from a person to another..

Hi Ginger. I dont know about your company, but legally I had to serve 2 months notice. Boss did not want me around so I get to sit at home and not work but be an employee for two months. So I guess I am lucky.
I have not even started looking for something else. Am just taking a break at the moment because the whole politics and working for this unethical sorry excuse for a person was very stressful. Its been about a week or so and I will start looking for something at the end of the month.
It is better to resign than be fired because I think legally if you get fired they do not have to pay you your dues. But I might be mistaken.
Sorry about this. I know how incredibly crushing this can be for your own confidence. I wish you all the best. Dont doubt yourself.
kcinthecity thanks, is there a termination notice when you resign, and is there a termination notice if he wants to fire you? I am looking for another job meanwhile, any tips on that?
Just been through this ginger. I went on leave and he reassigned all my project. Its such a dirty way to play politics. I eventually resigned. I am too good to work for that piece of rubbish.
I am sorry you are going through this.
I was on sick leave for one week and when i resumed, have a feeling my boss is searching for a good reason to fire me. He even delegated my direct responsibilities to someone else. Any advise or experience ? What does the law say in this situation.
