Hi Ladies

Hubby, and I and a couple of friends are thinking of going to Sri Lanka for a long weekend, but don't know where to go. Looking for a few temples, nice beaches, and clean but cheap accom.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. :)

beckie temples are in the north and beaches are in the south so you have to compromise...it was getting very humid.we went in feb for a long weekend to the south of sri lanka. so if you want some nice weather look towards kandy and nuwara elliya there are waterfalls and walking trails and tea plantation. but beaches have all the water sports- scuba diving, jet ski, fishing, coral waters...but too humid. i still have the tan from there despite putting loads of sun cream. we also wanted to see atleast one temple and our guide took us to colombo for that on our last day in sri lanka. beautiful buddha temple and one hindu temple.

I've done a whole tour around SL & can recommend Saman Villas in Bentota.

Thanks ladies! Will have a look at those. How long does it take to get to Galle from the airport? as we're prob only going to be there for a few days dont want to spend too much time travelling. Hi Love Sri Lanka. Last time we went it took 3. hrs from airport to Beruwela/Bentota. I have friends in Ahungalla, from Bentota that takes about 30mins, and then from there to Galle another good 1hr to 1.5. The roads may be better now but suspect that you can be looking at a very realistic 4hrs plus to reach Galle.

Unawatuna by Galle. I second this - beautiful place. I can't really put my finger on what I loved so much about it but it was sooooo relaxed, little beach hut restaurants everywhere, beach house accommodation (we didn't stay there, just visited for a day so can't speak for whether the accommodation is clean) - just fantastic. We stayed in Galle nearby which is a tuktuk ride away so if you stayed in Unawatuna then you could visit Galle Fort which is nice to walk around - go to the Galle Fort Hotel for lunch. It is a loooooong drive from the airport though. Fascinating journey though, I enjoyed every minute. We also stayed in Ellerton Lodge near Kandy which was amazing as well, however there is nothing to do here other than read, eat, drink and walk - which was perfect for us for a couple of days as part of our week but for a long weekend you may want a bit more action!
