Hi there,
Which baby monitor should I buy?
I live in a Palmera villa in the Arabian Ranches, but not sure if any baby monitor works well in this type of house (with thick walls). Does anyone have any experience with a baby monitor which can also be used outside in the garden?

Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I think I will go with the BT150 Digital Baby monitor or the Philips Avent SCD530. Will buy it in Holland, so much cheaper!!!

We used the angelcare ones with the sensor pad. Absolutely brilliant I cant recommend these enough! We have used this one as well (still are 14months on - although not the sensor now), and I also love it. I do have friends that have hated it (because of the sensor going off if you forget to turn it off before removing the baby) - but personally, I think that is a small price to pay for the reassurance you get from them.. plus you soon get into a routine of shutting it off. Yes I think this was the only thing that annoyed me about this, but like you said it is a small price to pay for that peace of mind. The little pendulum sways on the monitor when it senses your babies movement so instead of checking on them every five minutes like new mums do to see if they are still breathing, you can just glance at the monitor and see everything is ok. Also you can set maximum and minimum room temperatures so that if the temperature in the baby’s room drops or increases rapidly then it will give a little beep to warn you. It is always a really clear single, again I still use it and my DD is 17 months, and we have never had a problem at all with signal. I can’t rate it enough.

We bought the top of the range Avent one (dnt know the model sorry) but had the same concerns as you re thick walls and it works great. Really good range and shows humidty levels (quite useful here with all the air con) and the temp of the room.. its a really small compact remote that has a talk back facility and is small enough to clip on your jeans...The only thing I wished it would do is to have the time on it aswell! Good luck.. Think we have the same one?! It's the SCD530! DD's room is upstairs in front of the house, and even when we sit out the back in the garden, the range is pretty good as it does not loose signal :) Also love the fact that if I am in DD's room putting her to sleep and I need something, I can just "page" DH and speak to him without having to leave the room! We bought ours from Babyshop.

The BT Monitor is great and the reach is good particularly if you live in a villa with thick concrete walls. Some of the other brands wont work in villas.

We bought a chicco one here at toysrus that's basically useless, it loses the signal unless you are 3 meters from the base (in which case you can hear the baby anyway!)

This may help: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=120603 we use BT 150 Digital Baby Monitor ordered from UK. LOVE IT! read the review on google about it. ps: your username suggests that you are from Holland (a friend from there has the same name)... if this is the case, maybe get it delivered to NL in case you have a family member coming to visit.
