Anyone Delivered in Medcare??

I had my little girl at Medcare in August. Overall, I'd say it was a reasonably good experience. It is what you make of it I suppose. I was with dr yuliya too - from back in her city days. She is outstanding and that extends to making sure your time in medcare is good too.  I was very keen on an all natural birth even had a doula ( fOr which I got advance written permission) but ended up being induced the day after d day because of high blood pressure, not dilating at all, having an allergic reaction, which resulted in fetal stress and meconium stain which ended in an emergency C. I don't think they handled that part brilliantly at all! There weren't proper explanations, wanting to hook me to monitors and constantly check. I had to literally strike, refuse to sit ot allow anyone to touch me until I got explanations. But once i did that and demanded that nothing be done till my doctor got there, things got better. Not to scare you but I'm telling that story just so you know that unless you're firm they will go about their routines without consulting you.  Besides that all was good. Once you're in the delivery room/Theatre with your doc, she's the boss and they'll do as she says. Same goes for aftercare. If you're not happy with something or have questions just tell yuliya and she'll sort it out. I had only one complaint with pain meds which was that they wouldn't give me anything but panadol ( which is like candy to me :P) and she made sure I got voltaren supps. The nurses were very good and responsive in their aftercare. Some better than other as it is everywhere.  One big problem with medcare is room availability. They are a small hospital. Be insistent. Even after surgery I was put into a sharing room for an hour while they got one sorted. And I think it wouldve been longer if we hadn followed up - and thanks to a lovely headnurse called Mira. Overall, it's not a warm and fuzzy place like city was back then. Probably more medical in their approach to birth than some would like. But if you know what you want and will make sure you get it, and with yuliyas support, you will get it. In the end for me it was a choice between yuliya and sucking it up at medcare. Or city/American and a different doctor. I chose yuliya. Ps: yuliya is a brilliant surgeon. Took baby out in 8 mins. Made sure she sewed me up slowly for nearly 45 to avoid scarring trouble. Really low neat cut. She came in and cleaned wound each day herself. And sent me home a day early with instructions on how to remove dressing. After that it was just soap and water from day 4. And I was walking within 15 hours of surgery.

I'm also with Cooper Clinic although see Dr Natalia. She only delivers at MedCare which i'm happy with. My sister-in-law had her baby last year and she was very impressed with the staff and facilities. She had an emergency C but the care she was given was very good. I've also just found out today that if you take the Cooper Clinic Anti-Natal class, this now includes the mid-wife visiting you in the hospital after the birth to give you some additional advice which i think is a great added benefit.

I had both my babies delivered (natural) at Medcare (2009 and 2010) - I was very happy with both the care of my new baby and myself. They were very thorough in all their newborn checks too.

I delivered at Medcare in July and had a great experience. The nursing staff are lovely. Most of my friends have delivered there and all had good experiences.

My doctor had the rights to deliver there last year but said she wouldn't do it. Asked me to consider another hospital, thought it was a financial decsion on her part but when pressed said the aftercare was what she was worried about.Plenty of nusres not so many midwife's makes a big difference in her opinion.

Yes, I did, but it was 3 years ago. They defintely do tours so you can have a look round. I found the place lovely, more like a hotel than a hospital, haha. There were even those little complimentary toiletries in the bathroom and a TV (I'm easily impressed). The care was good, nurses nice although their English wasn't fab, but with sign language it was fine. I had an emergency C-section so was in for a few days in the end and I had no complaints. I believe it has got much busier since so hopefully my post will bump your question up and ladies with more recent experience will be able to give you a newer review.
