We're just filling in the forms to send off our 2-week old son's passport application to dusseldorf tomorrow. I thought it would be an easy process, but the website information is all over the place and I am so confused about the supporting documents I need to send. We are both british citizens with british passports. We thought we only needed to send:

2 x passport photos (one counter signed)
Completed passport form
Credit card form
2 x birth certificates

But now I'm reading the section on required documents and it's making mention of my and DH's birth certifcates (which we don't have in the UAE) and copies of our passports. We haven;t registered him with british embassy, but we have both his birth certificates from babysteps. Any help from someone who has done it very recently would be MUCH appreciated!

Sorry, I am a muppet. I did indeed mean birth certificate! All these 3am wake-ups are addling my brain! You need either your birth certificate or your DH's. Off to get a decent sleep if I can... :D.

Ayda247 I think Dubaicat means birth certificate, as this is what we've discovered with more research today. We only have my full birth certificate, so we're sending that off instead of husbands. Does anybody know whetehr we need to send marriage certificate too? As obviously my birth certificate has maiden name on it? Not good news that you are still waiting Ayda247 - we really want to fly in 4 weeks but looks like it's not going to happen as we can't get application off until Wednesday when inlaws arrive with birth certificate :-(

dubaicat, are you sure you need to send one of the parent's passports with the babys application? we sent off my baby's app on 1st april and i dont remember reading anything like that in the guidance notes - or did you mean parent's birth certificate? my DH is british but i am not so we sent our original marriage cert, his original birth cert and copies of our passport plus of course baby's original birth cert and the completed credit card form. they debited our credit card 5 days later but still no word on the passport - 4 weeks now!

You need to send either your passport or your DH's along with the application, and it needs to be the original full-size A4 one (not the smaller A5 copy one). You also need to include copies of both your passports, and on the copy of the credit card holder's passport the card holder needs to sign it. We did ours in Feb for DD and it didn't take long to come back at all. You still have plenty of time if DS is only two weeks :).

Ooh sorry just re read your post, myou only need to send the english birth cert, but you do need copies of you and your husbands passports, plus your husbands birth cert. you have upto 120 days to get residency visa for your liitl one, so you may have time to request your birth cents from uk, as you do need them. Hope this helps.
